Sidewalk Flowers – One Pager

The one pager assignment is a way to express your thoughts about a children’s book in the form of a one-pager. Splitting it into four sections, we needed to show connections, themes, ask questions and to site a quote directly from the book. This post will show my understanding of a story called Sidewalk Flowers by JonArno Lawson.

My Core Competency Reflection :

Why did I choose this artifact?

After looking through the book, I realized that it would be an interesting story to talk about. The fact that this book has no writing inside the book really stood out to me. Before looking through this story I had little knowledge that a story could be told in such a meaningful way without even saying a word, it helped me realize that anything could be turned into something meaningful if put together properly.

What aspects of this activity were challenging?

One thing that took me a while to come up with was the quote. Since the book had no writing, I had to put myself into the shoes of the author and create a quote as if I was the author which wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be.

What could you have done differently and why?

I think the next time I do a project like this, I could try and come up with more connections. I think that I could also try and work on coming up with more theme statements.
