DEFINE:

Global warming is a serious problem. With every year our planet is slowly heating, causing the ice caps to melt, floods, droughts, forest fires, and some ecosystems to become inhabitable. Global warming is caused when certain gases that are emitted into the atmosphere absorb the rays from the sun instead of reflecting them like other gases. These absorbing gases are called “Green house gases” because the effect of them absorbing heat is almost like a green house. Some of the more commonly known greenhouse gases are Methane and Carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when we burn fossil fuels to power our machines, vehicles, and factories. Now, if the atmosphere is full of these Green house gases, all absorbing heat, you can imagine how easily it can cause our atmosphere and planet to heat. After years of us releasing Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the warming affect it has on our planet has become noticeably worse.

Global warming really started to take shape during the 1950s, where actual data that showed our planet was heating was recorded. But, that does not mean scientists did not have theories before the actual real proof. In the 1800s, there were some experiments done that suggested the burning fossil fuels could in fact cause our planet to heat, but were met with more curiosity than concern. You might be wondering, if the consequences for burning fossil fuels were known back then, why didn’t we do something about it? Well, it turns out that people didn’t really take Global warming that seriously, and even welcomed the thought of warming our planet so areas of the world with a colder climate might change to a neutral climate. It was only until 1988, where we had the hottest summer on record (back then), and droughts and forest fires began to spread throughout the US that we looked at Global warming more closely- and with concern this time.  Now, Global warming is known as an incredibly serious problem all around the world, and we are taking steps to slow- and hopefully stop- the heating of our planet. Some ways we are trying to stop Global warming in Canada are turning all cars and trucks completely electric by 2035. This can hopefully cut out a portion of the Carbon dioxide that Canada emits into the air. This is a popular idea throughout other countries as well.

The thing I am the most proud of in this project was my Minecraft build. I am the most proud of my Minecraft build because I have only used Minecraft for schoolwork once before, and that was in grade 6. I think my building skills have improved a lot, and I was excited to build my Global warming solution. I think I could have improved on the planning part of my project. This is because it took me a really long time to come up with an idea, which cost me a lot of in-class-work-time I could have used. This caused me to have to do a lot of my project at home. If I had come up with an idea faster, it would have been a lot better for me. Another thing I could have done better is practicing what I was going to say in the video a bit more. I stuttered in the video, so practicing what I was going to say would have helped with that.
