Millions of Cells die each day, so to keep are structure cells must duplicate. The method of cell duplication is called “The cell cycle” and has 3 stage Interphase, Mitosis which includes prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase, and the final stage Cytokinesis.
This model represents what a cell would look like. The strings are the cell membrane and the nuclear membrane and the pipe cleaners in the middle are DNA strands.
-Interphase
In this stage the DNA strands duplicate
-Prophase
The replicated DNA joins with the other DNA to from sister chromatids and the nucleus fades for a bit.
-Metaphase
The DNA center themselves inside the cell
-Anaphase
The chromatids form spindle fibres and the spindle fibres pull the DNA apart evenly to two different sides.
-Telophase
A two cell membranes are formed to prepare for the final stage
-Cytokinesis
The final stage where the two daughter cells split.
