Math 9 Final Review 2017

The difference between Mean, Median and Mode

Mean is the average out of the group of numbers, a central idea of the group. By finding the mean you must add all numbers and proceed by dividing the answer by the amount of numbers that are in the group.

Example: The group of numbers, 7, 6 and 3 have a mean. This mean is 7 + 6 + 3 which equals 16 divided by 3. The mean would equal 5.3. Every group of numbers has a mean .

In the situation of buying P.N.E tickets for you and your 3 other friends who are of the height 48” and under the cost per ticket would be $27. You would need to use mean.

27 + 27 + 27 + 27 = 108 – It would cost you $108 for you and your friends to go to Playland.

Median is the number inbetween the highest and lowest number in the group.

Example: 7, 8, 10, 13, 18 – 10 is the Median because it is found in between the lowest and highest numbers.

This can be used in situations of making decisions based off big groups.

Mode is the number in the group that repeats the most.

Example: 15, 8, 8, 9, 8, 0. The number 8 would be the mode because it is being repeated 3 times, more than any other number in the group.

This method can be used for voting counts and whatever category or option gets the most repeated votes.
