Legal Moves with tiles

The First of the top 5 are legal move’s. I chose this one because you have to go by the rules to get the answers for every question no matter the length. This type of math question is just to find the variable by itself and what its value is. The rule is, whatever you do to one side, you have to do to the other. As long that there is a way of having the variable by itself you can do the equation.

X and Y graph equations

X and y graphs helped me very much with understanding how charts and how money works. With just one equation you can predict the whole chart to the 1,o00th number. It is fairly simple and works like a charm. So the x value in the equation means how many the number goes up by per section and the plain number is what you add to the number. If you do this correctly you can find any number you want. IF you want to find any number you multiply the x value by the number column and add whatever number comes after in the equation.

Exponent laws:

Exponent laws were a very important thing I learned this year because I struggled with them all year long with getting 63% on the exponents test. But once the test was done I was able to understand the easy topic that I found so hard my whole year. While I too thought it was a complicated equation I soon realized how lazy and fun exponents could be. Exponents is just a repeated multiplication of numbers. You can just add the exponents if the bases are the same, but if the bases are different you have to multiply the bases by each other then add the exponents

Similarity and Scale factor:

Every student in Mrs.Burton’s class did not understand what the 1:4 in the maps meant including me. I loved maps as a kid but I was never able to understand what it really meant. But what I learned was that this is just a way to show what can be drawn or built by using equations and scale factors. It would take a lot of hours and paper to draw a life size version of a house as an architect. The scale factor means that if the number on the left is smaller then the actual is bigger than the picture while if the number of the left is bigger then the real life item will be smaller.

Financial literacy:

When I first learned that we had to do finances I was worried because I didn’t know much about it and it seemed quite complicating. But the most important of the things were surveying and what affects surveys. What I didn’t know is that you can tell a survey is good or bad just by checking the factors that affect survey data. The factors that affect surveys are Cost, bias, language, privacy, ethics, cultural sensitivity and time. These all majorly affect surveys and in order to get a good survey you need to add all of these into it to make it the most effective.

What I learned about grade 9 similarities

Enlargements and reduction

Reduction is when something reduces in size and has a smaller surface area.

Enlargement is when a shape is larger than the original image and has a larger surface area

Is it similar?

A polygon is only similar if all of the angles are the same. Even if the shape looks similar if the angles are not the same it is not a similar polygon

 

Scale Factor:

The scale factor means how much the polygon increases or decreases by. The image is always on the left and the original is always on the right. So if the scale factor is 2:1 then you multiply the image by 2 which would be an enlargement while 1:2 would be dividing the image by 2. If the number on the left is larger multiply but if the right is bigger then you divide.

Equations:

Sf= Scale Factor

When you want the size of the image, you multiply the scale factor withe the original image to find the size of the image.

When you are asked to find the size of the image you multiply the S.F with the original if it’s an enlargement and if it’s a S.F less than one you divide by that number

When you want to know the scale factor divide the image by the original to get the S.F

Triangles with missing sides:

For example if you know all of the sides of the image and have just one side of the original, you can divide the image by the original and you get the scale factor. Once you have that you can divide all of image sides and you get the original side lengths.

 

Butterfly is when you cross multiply so you find the missing number, and you divide the two numbers you have and then divide or multiply the number you have to find the missing number.

What I Learned about Grade 9 Linear Relations Summary

Horizontal and vertical Lines:

An example for this is that y=3 what you do is you find 3 y and then it just goes horizontally across and If it is x=3 you find 3x and go vertically all the way through. When you want to make a smaller line you have to put down where it stops and where it finishes. An example is x=3 {2<y<4}

How to determine points on mixed up equations or ones with fractions:

-3x+ 2y=2 This is actually very simple because all you have to do is get Y. You can achieve the answer by adding 3x to the side with 2. Which makes 2y= 3x+2 divide by 2 and you will get the formula. when you get a number that is a fraction you put the multiples in x column and y will be a full answer.

What the number in the equation means in the line:

If the x is negative then the picture will be going but if the x is positive then the line will be going up and is positive.

How to fill the table when you get the formula:

This is very simple because all you need to do is multiply the number on the x column and then add or subtract to find y. Ex: 2x+3 would be 1 x 2= 2+3= 5 so the answer and the difference between the numbers in the x number. So the question goes up by 2 every time.

How to extend the pattern on an axis:

You can extend the pattern on the axis to see what all of the numbers would be and also to check if your equation is correct by checking if the line is fully straight. unless the number can be divided to a fraction you dont need to extend fully.

Plot points on a coordinate axis:

Plot points on a coordinate axis work very simple and it works like this. If your equation is 2x+3 you go 2 points to the x axis and 3 points up to y. So y is going up and x is going to the sides. whatever the equation is you just put it into the graph to make it work. The coordinate axis x and y meet at zero which splits up the picture into four quadrants.

How to convert a table to a rule:

You first see how much it goes up by each time and that is the second number. What you do next is to see how much is left and multiply that part of the equation.

How to convert pattern to table:

First you see what the pattern is and see how much it goes up by and then you order it by 1,2,3,4 on the x side and how ever much you need to multiply you do that and your answers will be able to be filled in.

Extend a growing pattern and fill in missing numbers:

  1. Extending a growing pattern is just a realization of the increase or decrease of the number and just continuing the number. Filling in the missing number is finding how many numbers are between the two that you can see and just multiplying the the rule and the number. 

 

What I Learned about Grade 9 inequalities

How to check solution: You can check your solution in two ways. If it has an equals to sign then you can do two. You replace the x by putting its value times the number.

Graph inequality: If there is a closed circle it means equal less or more then. If the circle is open then it has to be less then or more then.

What do the symbols mean:  There are four symbols. The first one is less than which mean your number has to be less than the number. The next one is greater than were your number has to be greater than. The third one is equal or less than. This means the number has to be less or the same as the other number. The last one is greater or equal than this means that x must be greater or equal to the number.

Inequalities

An inequality is when you have an equation that you have to use one of the four signs.

How to solve+ divide by a negative: When you divide the number by a negative you have to flip the sign.
