This week in math we got to learn how to foil polynomials. If you have to multiply two binomials you can use foil to solve the equation. Once you are done foiling you have to group the like terms together.

Example:

(9+7x)(2x+4)+(5+x)(3x+1)

= 18x+36+14x^2+28x+(5+x)(3x+1)

=18x+36+14x^2+ 28+15x+5+3x^2+x

=17x^2+34x+69

After you’re done grouping the like terms together, the equation is fully simplified.

How To Use sin,cos,tan

This week in math we learnt how to use sine, cosign, and tangent. There is an easy way to remember each one of their functions.

SOH= Sin= Opposite/Hypotenuse

CAH= Cos= Adjacent/Hypotenuse

TOA= Tan=Opposite/Adjacent

Depending on what angle/side of the triangle you need you use that function. The first step of solving your equation is to always label your triangle with the hypotenuse, opposite, and adjacent. Then you have to figure out which function you need to use. After you figure that up you set up your equation and solve it.

Example:

To find x you have to use sine or tangent. I am going to use sine.

sin(65)=(\frac{x}{6})

.906307787*6=x

x=5.44

 

How to find the Surface Area and Volume of a Hemisphere

This week in math we got to learn how to find the volume and surface area of a hemisphere. If you need to find the volume of a hemisphere it’s just the equation to find the volume for a normal sphere, but you just need to divide the equation by 2. For finding the surface area you need to divide the equation to find the surface area for a sphere by 2, and then add πr^2. Here is my example

How to read a Micrometer in Metric Units

This week we learnt how to read a micrometer in metric units. First you have to figure out what number is on the horizontal line. Each indent represents .50mm so in this picture, the total is 1.5mm. Then you have to read the vertical line which goes up by .01mm. In this picture it reads to .49mm. Then you add both numbers up so 1.5+.49 which equals to 1.99mm.

What I learned in Math this week

This week in math I got to learn how to solve an equation where the exponent is a fraction. The base of the power is the radicand in the new equation. The denominator in the fraction is the index and the numerator turns into the exponent. The first way I wrote it is very helpful when you are not using a calculator to solve the problem. GCF/LCM

Another way to find the LCM is a method similar to the division table. By using this table you only need to use prime factorization once, for all the numbers at the same time.

The numbers I used were 220,117,108

You have to make a table and put all of the numbers you are trying to find the LCM for in one column. Then you divide by prime numbers in the other column. It doesn’t matter if all of the numbers divide by that number, you can just carry the number that is not divisible by the number you are trying to divide by down to the next row. You just need to remember to only divide by prime numbers.

In the end you multiply all of the prime numbers in the column and that should give you the LCM.                                                                                                untitled

 

 

 

GCF

In this method you put all of the nugcfmbers you are trying to find the GCF in one column. Then you start dividing the numbers by prime numbers. You have to find a number that is divisible by all of the numbers for this method. Then at the end you multiply all of the prime numbers you got.gcf-v

 

 

 

I personally prefer the method we learnt in class because, it is easier. For the LCM your basically just doing the same amount of work but taking up less space, but this method confused me quite a lot. I also prefer the method we learnt in class for the GCF because in the method I found online you have to find a number that is a factor for both of the numbers that you are trying to find the GCF for. Overall the methods in class were much easier then the ones I have found online.
