Adaptive Technology proposal

Today we got the chance to do a FaceTime call with Tim who unfortunately has huntington’s disease. He lives at Nicola lodge. We all got to ask him questions and ask about his difficulties. Although he couldn’t really answer us himself his daughter Nicola did. We asked him questions like what’s hard, whats difficult and whats frustrated. Everyone got engaged in the FaceTime and it was really eye opening. After asking questions we came up with he can’t use his TV remote because its too hard for him to grip so his tv just sits there. His daughter also mentioned its hard for him to get into on off his couch. He didn’t mention this but he showed us his art work so we thought maybe making it possible for him to do art. For me I really think helping him get in and out of his couch would be really cool, just because that doesn’t only make his life so much better but also his daughters so she doesn’t have to lift him out and in. I am really excited to try to make his life a little easier because I can’t imagine how he feels to know everything he knows but not be able to express myself. And I really hope I can make a difference in his life even if its not a huge one!

  1. Thanks for your reflection on our connections-based learning with Tim. Great summary on how the chat went. I am glad that you are excited about creating something that might make his life a little easier. I would have liked to hear more about your ideas, particularly some research and steps to achieving your goal. Where would you start with working on this project?
