After testing out how the different weight of a paper plane would affect it’s duration in the air, we have found that having a paper plane with 1 paper clip will result in a longer duration flying in the air. We tested out a standard planes’ duration in the air, afterwards we added one paper clip, and finally we added an additional paper clip. We used the same plane to assure that the construction of the plane wouldn’t be different and that it wouldn’t affect the results. We repeated the same process times so that we could find an average. After recording the time for each trial to 2 decimal places, we could find the average.
Our first trial we used the plane that had no paper clips.
Trial 1 : 1.40 sec Trial 2 : 1.14 sec Trial 3: 2.18 sec Trial 4 : 1.23 Trial 5 : 1.21 sec
Average= 1.43 sec
Our second trial was the same plane but with an added paper clip.
Trial 1 : 1.44 sec Trial 2: 1.73 sec Trial 3: 1.60 Trial 4 : 1.33 sec Trial 5 :1.71 sec
Average= 1.55 sec
And our finally trial was the same plan but with two paper clips added onto it.
Trial 1: 1.11 sec Trial 2: 1.08 sec Trial 3 : 0.76 sec Trial 4: 1.58 sec Trial 5: 0.86 sec
Average = 1.07 sec
Between our first place plane and second place plane there is only a different of 12 milliseconds, which is not very much. It shows that adding a couple extra grams will affect the end result for the expirement.
What did I learn?
I learned that having a plane with a paper clip added to it, will result in a longer duration in the air, compared to a normal plane and and a plane with 2 paper clips. Having a paper clip added onto your plane will help stabilize your plane, and make sure it fly’s for a longer time
What would I do different next time?
I would use a ruler to make the lines more crisp which will make sure the plane is even on both side.
