This project that our group created is an observational documentary. It is aimed to observe and give information about the specific question we chose, “How does 1984 have themes or topics still occurring in current society?”. It gives first-hand information about themes and topics that are relevant in our present society and the society of 1984. Included dialogs give a personal outlook of opinions and beliefs of our question that our documentary focuses on. With incorporated B-roll and Voice-Over, it attracts the audience with our own evidence of footage from the novel as well as an easy listing narrative voice. Using the main question as our documentary focus, we collaborated our research, interviewers and personal opinions to create an informational video.

Political spectrum –“1984” & Big Brother

The political spectrum is a way of characterizing different pollical parties, they are shown by being placed on a line of the right or left side as well as top and bottom. People can decide where they sit and agree with political parties by their values, personality and life experiences. The left side of the political spectrum is communist and socialist which encourages communal ownership and a government that is owned by the people. They are more extreme with revolutionary views. The right side of the spectrum is mostly fascism and some oppressive ideologies, including extreme nationalistic viewpoints. They want to restore traditions and limit change to keep the society a certain way. They encourage private ownership of property for citizens. Libertarianism believes that a person should have maximized freedom whether authoritarianism is to restrict and control citizen’s rights. The government of Ingsoc and Big Brother fit in the authoritarian left side of the political spectrum because they are being controlled of their freedom and rights from the government and they don’t have their own property/land or business.
