Digital Footprint

Digital Footprint

“How does your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least 2 examples.”

Depending on what you post and do online, your digital footprint can affect your present and future life and opportunities in many ways.  For me, I think the two biggest ways your digital footprint can affect your future is it can affect you job opportunities and affect the way your peers, family and acquaintances think of you.  It can affect your job opportunities because if you are applying for a job and your employer sees a post that is not appropriate or offensive to others your most likely not to get the job. It can affect the way people think of you because people will look at what you post and assume it’s the way you behave.

“Describe at least 3 strategies you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.”

Here are 3 strategies for keeping your digital footprint appropriate and safe.  One, think before you post. If you wan to post something onto your social media take a look at it and think, is this appropriate or will this hurt somebody and. Two, is it something that you would let your family see.  If you’re unsure about a photo you want to post show someone close to you and they will tell you their opinion. Three, make sure it won’t affect your future job opportunities.  Many people have lost them because of they post, make sure you’re not one of them.

“What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?”

Some information I would pass on to other students is that people can still see what you post even if you are on private, so always make sure its appropriate. Another thing I would remind students is to think before you post. Is it nice, is it appropriate, could if affect you in some type of way and would you be okay if your employer or family saw it.  I would tell people that yes we all do make mistakes but on the internet, they are hard to undo so always remember to be safe while online.
