The image that i used was ” birds on a wire ” , i chose this image because it means and describes many things that are still happening in this world today . In my opinion this image represents how immigrants are not always welcomed into a new country and how people don’t always treat them equally towards each other . In the painting the smaller coloured bird represents an immigrant and the pigeons represent the people who are not welcoming the little bird .
So i decided to do a poem in the little birds perspective and let the bird say how it feels about all of this and its experience immigrating .
Not welcome here.
I flew away a while ago to find a home for me in the winter’s teardrops of snow
All the friends I had to leave, the cities that I needed to weave my way out of
Although…
It is not what I thought it would be.
My wings spread over empty valleys and pleasant seas.
All the stuff that had passed by me.
To find a home.
Many people told me to go
They told me I would only fly low, and not as high as I could possibly go.
If only they did not say no.
If only they would know… Know.
That I had to leave my family, and travel across many seas.
To try to find a place called home.
Home what a wonderful word something that I yearn to have.
Not having to be scared, not having to run.
A place where I can see the sun and not hide in the shadows.
A place to connect and learn with people.
Sometimes winds can blow you in the wrong direction while deciding.
Is this your choice?
In these places we don’t have to suffer cry and leave
We can perceive.
Although you don’t know much about me
Some Birds may win a race while I learn to spread my wings and breath the air that I have long awaited
We will not all have the same feathers or story
We all have suffered at some point
So why do we complain about our feathers
Why don’t we take the time to listen to other voices and not their whispers?
After all the world can’t stay the way you want it to be forever.
Nobody is truly better.
We are all but birds.
