Who is Felicity?

I am Felicity Johnson, 29 years old, from Penticton, B.C. I majored in Business Management with a specialization in Human Resources and a Minor in Psychology from the University of British Columbia – Okanagan. After being hired as the first employee nearly 5 years ago, and working my way up through the ranks, I am the General Manager of Area 27 Motorsports Park – a Grand Prix designed circuit with a country-club style business model located in Oliver, B.C.

The qustions:
1: Why are you passionate about your job? I am passionate about my career because of the people I work with and the people I get to meet. Each day is different which keeps the role interesting. Also, who doesn’t love being surrounded by beautiful cars daily?!
2: What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today? Being a young female in a male dominated industry I have had to overcome gender discrimination and have been questioned on my experience level. My typical client is a successful, wealthy, type-A male so by demonstrating my commitment to the position, absorbing information quickly and implementing it, and my willingness to persevere adversity, I have gotten to where I am today.
3: What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing? Have a thick skin, you’ll need it in business. Listen! Act professionally as you never know who is watching or who you will meet. Never doubt yourself.
When I first started with Area 27, nearly 5 years ago, as the Events Manager, the President of the Corporation asked me if I ever envisioned myself running the company. I never thought I’d be able to do it. Now, I don’t know anyone better suited for the role than I am.
4: Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can they contact someone contact you? Yes, of course. Via email at felicity@area27.ca or by phone at (250) 490-5531
5: What is your favourite part about working at Area 27? This is similar to why I am passionate about my job, but it is the people: my colleagues and the members. As an employee I also receive complimentary access to the kart track which is extremely fun, so the perks of the job are certainly attractive, as well.
6: What does your job entail, what are the things you do every day? Lots of emails and phone calls. Sales, bookkeeping, scheduling, budgeting, billing, member relations, policy revision/creation, employee management, liaise with partner companies or potential future partners, organize club racing, send out newsletters to members and the public, etc
