1: Your digital footprint is much more important for future jobs and universities now than ever, because those interviewers already know how good you can work and how good you can be at a job based on you application, but they don’t know how you work or how you are as a person so they could be looking at your digital footprint. Another good reason is that if you post something that could be used against you in the future, a good example is Justin Trudeau with the blackface photos.

2: You can start by taking a minute and looking at what you are about to post and review THINK. You can also not post anything; to avoid it all together. The main thing is to see if what you are about to post is good or bad.

3: I would only share to friends the fact that people interviewing you will most likely look at your digital footprint. And I would probably only bring it up in a casual conversation, just as a fun fact.
