Astronomy Wonder Assignment

By learning about black holes, will it help us understand time travel?

First, we must understand what a black hole is. A black hole does not look like a planet. It is simply a certain place in space that pulls so much that not even light can escape its grasp. “The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space.” (Wild 2018) Scientists believe that by learning about black holes, we can also learn about time travel and finally understand how to jump through time. Many believe that you can understand time travel through dilation. Time dilation refers to the time difference when looking at one clock on a spaceship and one on earth. The theory explains that if a ship is traveling at light speed, the time on that spaceship seems to be going slower than the time on earth. If we can understand more about time dilation, we could understand more of the properties of time dilation and how it works which would make it possible to learn to time travel.

Overall, learning about black holes will most certainly help us understand more about time travel but learning how to travel through time is still unlikely. Time travel works in theory but obviously not in practice yet. The scientific community’s consensus is that humans need fully-fledged and working quantum computing to simulate particles traveling through wormholes. Being able to time travel would change the world forever and learning that it is unlikely but still possible is mind-blowing to me and, hopefully, to you. Thank you for reading.
