Dear Diary, I’ve never written to you before but I’m being to worry that my time is coming to a end. Before I place my heavy load of worries on you I’ll tell you a bit about myself. My name is Dakin Lymphocyte and like my last name applies I’m a Lymphocyte. I was Created in the bone marrow like the rest of my family. My never ending job is to patrol the lymphatic system of my hosts for a specific threat. I haven’t found my arch nemesis yet but once I do I will hold IT in place and won’t let go. As I do that I clone myself to even the odds, and so if IT ever comes back all be ready. I mentioned that I live in a host but that was it so let me tell you a bit more. My host is a Human male named Bob, and he’s been great. Bob has really made are job easy by not intentionally presenting opportunities for bacteria, viruses, and other outside evaders to enter him which is where my concern lies. Bobs sick and I mean really sick. He’s been losing a lot of weight and the lymph nodes in his neck is larger than it should be. But what is bothering me is that my siblings are growing and multiplying allot faster than what they have in the past. I hope we aren’t what’s causing his discomfort.

Dear Diary, I’m sorry that I’ve ignored you for five days but nothing interesting has gone on since we last talked. Bod is still sick and my family isn’t doing much better than last time. I hope we get better so we don’t have to go to the doctors. I hate the doctors, always injecting bad things into Bob trying to make him sick. Good thing we’re hear because if we weren’t the doctors would have killed him by now.

Dear Diary, Bod decided to go to the doctors to day and I’ll relieve the anticipation and tell you right now that it was not good. They day was ok until we got to the doctors. We sat, and sat, and sat, and sat and sat until some person told us that it was ok for us to come in. In less than 10 minutes of being in there the doc told us that we should book a biopsy at the hospital, recommended that we get lots of rest and eat a tun of fruit as well as vegetables and then we left. Can you believe it all that time for waiting to go in and out in less than 10 minutes. I could give Bob that advice fast than you could and we wouldn’t have had to do all that waiting around.
5/3/2017
Dear Diary, the doctors “terrific advice” had no affect on my family or on Bob. Bob booked his appointment for a biopsy on 5/12/2017 so I’ll sign off until then. Unless something bad happens.
5/11/2017
Dear Diary, I have some bad news. The doctors think that Bob might have Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma which is a type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer. They said that there was know need to worry about it though until they were sure. The biopsy went good, the doctors recommended that we schedule an appointment with them for the same time next week, and that we would find out then.

You know who I complained and said that it was such a bad day because we had to sit in the waiting room for the doctor, ya your prospective of a bad day change when you’ve had worse ones. Worse in the fact that your host, home, company, friend, Bob is dying and your family is what’s causing him to die at the young age of 25. The doctors didn’t waste any time delivering the bad news which I appreciated. They said that we have Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma or DLBCL for short. They explained that DLBCL was a cancer that began in the white blood cells called lymphocytes. What was happening to some of us was we were growing and dividing faster than we should have been. It terns out that DLBCL is the most common Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. They also said that there was not a known causes, and in are cases we were the unlucky ones. Bob asked if it was genetic and they said no, if you have kids they won’t get it because you had it. That didn’t really affect us because Bob was not married yet. By then Bob had herd enough, he just wanted to know what he could do to get rid of the cancer. The Docs say that he is only at stage 2B so they recommended Radiation therapy. For the therapy to present the best results Bob needs to come in five days per week for four weeks starting tomorrow. It’s kind of ironic, are job is to protect Bob but we’re killing him instead. How we’ve let him down.

Dear Diary, Radiation therapy isn’t as bad as I was expecting. I was thinking that by the time the four weeks were said and done we would be like the Hulk. But its just like being in the sun but more focused and no sun bern.

Dear Diary, the doctor mentioned that there might be some side effects and were feeling them now. It’s not painful or anything its just uncomfortable to swallow. Bob has gained some of the lost weight which is really good though.

Today was Bob’s last day of Radiation Therapy. His neck still bothers him a bit but not as much as it used to. The doctors say that they cant find any traces of cancer. YA! They still want to see him next month just in case but a heavy lode was just lifted.
1. What questions did you have need to research in order to create your cancer story? I need to search everything. I chose Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma as my cancer. Well I found out that there are 30 + different types of NHL. So I narrowed it down, there are two main cells, B and T. Well what’s more common, B-cells are, and it went like that for a long time.
2. What new of familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project? The only digital tools that I’m comfortable with are Google and YouTube. They are the most familiar to me and I used them to the best of my ability.
3. What was the process you used to investigate the topic? I had no process. If I had questions I looked them up and moved on from there.
4. How did you verify and cite the information you found? I checked lots of information from a plethora of websites but I did not copy anything or used a quote so I don’t think I needed to cite the information. Also I completely forgot what things I needed to cite and not so of I didn’t cite something that I should of just let me know and I’ll go fix it because the last thing I want to do is plagiarize someone’s work.
5. How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better? This and last week was really crazy for me. I had some family come up from Ontario so ever day over the long weekend, we did something all day and would get home late and by then I was exhausted, and then over the week days studying for all the test and finishing projects were hard for me to juggle. I think I could have used my time a bit more wisely. There’s always time and but I’m still learning how to find as well as maximize it.
