Tech Team Micro:bits

What is the name of the device you have chosen?

The device is called a Fan.

What is it used for? Can it be used for other things in a classroom setting?

It can be used to spin as a fan normally does, but there are endless possibilities. I believe in the right and creative way this can be used in the classroom as per usual. Anything can have another purpose as long as you put your mind to it and just try, that’s all it takes just trying something new.

What code did you use and what does it do?

This was the code that I used, as I wanted to keep it simple and just give a framework of what is needed for the fan to only start working. Afterwards you can add whatever you would like to the code to make it more complicated and do what you would like it specifically to do. Furthermore, this code shows that when you press button A the fan goes to full speed, then as button B is pressed the fan will stop, finally when both buttons are pressed the fan will go to half speed. As well as, initially when the fan turns on before it starts spinning, the Micro:bit will say “Hello!” once. This is a simple code that I was able to figure out without programming ever in my life; therefore, anyone can try and do this and make the code itself more complex and interesting.

Can you think of any other meaningful ways micro:bits can be used in previous and/or current classes you have taken? Please think about this and explain how and where you think micro:bits can be used.

This device can possibly be used in all classes through various ways. Some ideas include using it in art projects to showcase different mediums, it can be used in science experiments by showing howling it takes to have something to dry using various speeds. As well as, it can be used in programming classes as it allows you to program it however you would like. Another way is the more expected way, as a fan in class to cool down in the summer for example. Furthermore, you can try and use it to explain different lessons such as how home outlets work with the input of current through a different but similar code. There are endless possibilities for this fan as long as you just find a creative way to incorporate it. It may not always be useful, but it is something that can help a student or teacher possibly.
