How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Narrative Poem

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Once lived a green-furred monster

Living above the town

He was considered to be a mobster

And all the Whos saw him with a frown.

Once isolated from society

The Grinch knew no bounds

With the town in anxiety

He would make his rounds.

For he was hurt by no other than his own

Humiliation haunted him long ago,

As he made up his way the mountain all alone

He decided to never again show.

His past creeped into his present

Leaving him in distress

With all his views misrepresented

He awaits all depressed.

As Max runs about

He demonstrates with loyalty

That he’ll never spin out,

With him obeying joyfully

He’s ready for the day that’s approaching.

Max being constantly used

His love for the Grinch is as strong as a potion

One may even say he’s continually abused.

With the spirits rising and the Grinch smiling

It was known that Christmas was around the corner.

Max was in hiding,

While he waited for the time to pass in torture.

Suddenly, the Grinch received a lovely letter,

With its icy tone and Santa’s mark

The Grinch displayed a terror

And the next thing you know, he was in the dark.

Max barked and yelped

Day going by after day

The Grinch felt un-helped;

One may even say, lead astray.

With the holiday upcoming

The Grinch was a mystery,

No one was humming

And Max was in misery.

The letter contained a dreadful fear,

The Grinch didn’t know what to sense

It was all clear

The Whos were all intense.

Not showing a single care for Christmas

Allowing Santa to cancel the day

The Grinch felt a loss of tradition

As it was the only day he felt okay.

Next thing you know

The Grinch awoke

No longer in a blackhole

He made his way to the folk.

Traveling to Whoville

The Whos await

Because who knows about his goodwill,

Or even his state?

Entering the market

The Grinch took the Who-hash,

As it was a bargain

And he had the cash.

Walking around

The Grinch found cider

Stares filled the town

Since he was an outsider.

No glee or cheer

The Grinch at ease

With the town in fear

He discovered his trees.

As he found an issue

The Grinch made his way back up the mountain

Allowing for his plan to continue,

He wasn’t counting.

Shouting for Max

The Grinch was in a rage

Thinking about all the tracks

He felt he was in a cage.

Then an idea sparked

The Grinch started to grin,

While Max barked

The Grinch realized he was about to win.

The Grinch yelled, “Max I have a plan!”

As he searched for a sled

He thought to himself how he was a wise man.

Attaching horns to Max’s head

He created his scheme,

And in the dead of night

He set out to fulfil his dream;

Which definitely felt right.

Zooming down Mt. Crumpet

Max lead the way

As they both felt triumphant

They found a roadway.

With Whoville all asleep

His plan was ready

As he was in deep

And felt steady.

Arriving at the first house

He made no sound

Quieter than a mouse

He thought they’d come around.

Happy to take the holiday

It was a ghost-town,

With no one in sight as a witness

Every Who just considered it a normal day.

With the last house in sight

He stole the last fake display of cheer

But then with a light

Cindy-Lou Who just appeared.

Crazy to know what happened

She started to question

And then turned into snapping

With finished with aggression.

Running from the little girl

The Grinch sped away,

He started to swirl and twirl

Then Max stopped the sleigh.

Returning back home

The Grinch never felt better,

He was able to roam

And forget all about the letter.

Now with the real story of a poor outcast

Judge for yourself

If the Whos ever really loved Christmas at last.

With the holiday all to himself

The Grinch was forever pleased

Since he never needed to leave

He would never be teased.

Finally, the end of the deceived.
