Surface Area of a Sphere

Today in math class, we calculated the surface area of a sphere. We used the circumference of the oranges cut in half lengthwise and traced them onto a piece of paper, and then using the skin of the orange  we filled in the circles to be able to prove what the surface area would be. We determined that the peels filled in four complete circles without having any white spaces or overlapping. In conclusion, the surface area of a sphere is: 4 \pi r^2 Overall, this experiment was very interesting and I learned something new with it.
