Unit #1: Numbers Summary

During this first unit (Numbers) I particularly remember learning about prime numbers, prime factorization, number systems, and radicals. When I first started learning about prime factors and prime factorization they were linked together, in a way as a category. Prime factorization is used to find the prime factors of a composite factor, which means that the product of the prime numbers will equal the number we first started out with in the beginning. Prime factorization was a new concept for me, or just a concept that I needed a lot of review with; I first learnt how to use a prime factorization tree (which was completely new to me) this method helped me a lot to find prime numbers and prime numbers are numbers with only the factors of 1 and itself. After learning the basics we then moved onto number systems to be able to know irrational/rational numbers, how to convert into decimals and/or fractions, and overall these lessons would help in the future because I would be able to use the systems for radicals. The last lessons I really learned something new or reviewed were with radical. I learned new terminology such as: index, radicand, radical sign, etc. With the radicals unit I learned about a mixed radical: 4\sqrt 2, and then an entire radical: \sqrt 26, as well as, how to convert a mixed radical into an entire radical and vice versa. This whole unit taught/made me review the basics to be able to continue and learn new mathematical terms/techniques in the future. At the end of the year, I will review all of these terms and techniques to be able to continue with my love of math and continue expanding my knowledge since these are the building blocks for future units.
