Rank each of the following positions below in terms of what you would like as a job:
- Governor general
- MP
- Prime minister
- Minister
- Senator
Explaining your likes and dislikes for each position.
The first position I would prefer to be a governor general. The reason why I chose governor general as my first position because governor general represents the queen in Canada and carries out the duties of head of state. The governor general has the most of rights in Canada. This job has to ensure Canada always has a prime minister and a government in place. The bills of parliament also need approval by the governor general or royal assent.
The second position I would like to be a Member of Parliament. Whether you are a prime minister or minister that have to become a Member of Parliament first. I like the fact that Canadians elect representatives from across the country to the House of Commons rather than the governor general appoints. The important duties of Member of Parliament are make the laws, find the deficient of country and change it.
I chose prime minister to be my third position because they have many powers and decisions. The prime minister is the head of government in Canada. The leader of the party with the most representatives is asked to be the prime minister. The prime minister must approval by governor general. The prime minister decides on the size of cabinet, selects MPs and sometimes one senator into the cabinet. Also, the prime minister has very high pay. They can get almost $400,000 for a year. However, I think be a prime minister is not very easy thing, they have a lot of pressure for their work and have to responsible for Canada.
I chose minister as my fourth position. The prime minister chooses MPs to serve as ministers in the cabinet. There are ministers for citizenship and immigration, justice and other areas. I like the fact that minister makes important decisions about government policy.
My last choice was being a senator. The senate appointed by the governor general under the advice of the prime minister. I chose this job last because the important duty of a senator is double check the legislation passed by the House of Commons. They also can introduce their own bills and hold their position until 75 years old. I think this is really great because we do not need to worry lose the job when some troubles come out.
Just to clarify, the governor general has the same rights as everyone else in Canada. Just a different job description.
Good job. You show a good understanding of these positions.
