Narrative Poem – La Luna

On a small family trip

In a small family ship

They find the closest spot to the moon.

And on it, they’ll be, quite soon

They scale their way to the top

With a broom, and a mop

Until a small comet crashes down

Making the kid turn around

And investigate what he saw

Then in came his Pa,

And the grandfather as well

Both of which, tried to tell

The kid to clean up the place

With one of their brooms, he must decide with haste.

But a giant star flies into view

And it seems no matter what they do

The star can’t be moved, it can’t be budged.

At least, that’s what the elders judged.

But the kid suddenly found the answer

As he climbed up top with his tiny hammer

He barely hit, and it shattered

Into tiny pieces which scattered

And fell to the ground, shining bright

Illuminating the dark night

They began cleaning up the mess with a broom

Into a crescent shape of the moon

Social Media is Harmfully Good.

Social Media has been controversial between good and bad for a while. More specifically, since around 1997 when it first came out, and since then, even if we have improved it over time, the negative parts seems to never go away. When I say negative stuff, I’m talking about scams, false information, cyberbullying, and addiction. As we can all agree, social media can also do good things, such as let you know what’s going on in the world, communicate with people, and even see a person even if they are on the other side of the world. In my opinion, these goods things are more significant than the issues of social media because these issues aren’t necessarily issues if you don’t let them be. You can avoid a lot of these negative things by being smart about it and know what not to do. For example, if someone is harassing you online, and you are hurt by it, avoid communicating with that person and if you need to, block them so they can’t talk to you. Of course, there are other situations that can happen that’s not as simple to put an end to, but you can still avoid it from ever happening by watching what you are doing. Avoid scams by doing research before investing in it, avoid your accounts being hacked into by using unique passwords, make sure you have good posture so you don’t injure yourself, avoid using it for long amounts of time so you don’t strain your eyes,  and most importantly, do not share too much online. When saying or sharing things, ask yourself “What could happen if other people see this?” because nothing is completely private even if you think it is. The person who received what you send could easily screenshot it and show other people. This could either lead to absolutely nothing, or something as bad as what happened to Amanda Todd, who took her own life because of someone who shared a private picture of her on social media and constantly harassed her, and this is not the only incident in which bullying people online has affected them to that extent which is a major issue, but it’s not just social media that this can happen on. It can also happen on basic phone calls or texts or in person. So, it’s always something that will unfortunately be there, even if we take away the easier opportunities to do it. This can also be avoided if we all understand the issue behind cyber bullying. Parents could talk to their kids more about not bullying as well as how to deal with it so that they know not to do anything they can regret online. The point that I’m trying to make is that social media can be bad, but can also be amazing when you use it correctly.
