English 12: One minute film
Through an English project, I have had the chance to make a one minute film. I decided to make The Pedestrian, a short story, in a minute. It was difficult to decide what I wanted to focus on because every scene seemed important. However, I realized that not all story needs to be shown in order for the viewers to feel the tone and understand the message that they need to takeaway. The protagonist, Leonard Mead, is someone who is isolated with the community because he doesn’t enjoy watching tv and does not like the technology. However, he lives in a world where watching tv at a specific time is mandatory. He was caught by one of the police cars by not watching tv and was sent to the psychiatric center. The readers also realize that throughout the story, he is talking to an AI. By re-reading the short story, I realized that the most important part of the short story was the conversation that the protagonist had with the “police” since their conversation shows how a society would look like if humans are immersed into technology. This conversation makes you question what the world would look like when we are forced to be surrounded by technology. At the end of the one minute film, I put that the protagonist is sent to the psychiatric center. Through this last statement, I wanted the viewers to wonder whether taking him to a psychiatric center was a good idea. Through the process of making this video, I realized that I needed to be precise and clear of what I want to tell through this one minute film.
