This is based on the book sold by Patricia McCormick. She is a cold-hearted beast who beats underaged girls and forces them to work human trafficking. Based on how Lakshimi described her she is very chubby and wrinkly (Lakshimi says that she looks like an overripe mango). Mumtaz gets introduced when Lakshimi reaches India in the happiness house. Mumtaz is the owner of the business and the people who took her to the happiness house work for her. She forced Lakshimi to have sexual intercourse with a random person and when Lakshimi tries to run away she replied “do you know your way home….” ; then Mumtaz beats her till she is almost dead and starves her. She wasn’t going to let her live but she already payed for her, so she decides to let her live. Mumtaz understands what the girls are forced to, but she makes them do this job and only cares about money. She makes Lakshimi drink a cup of lassi (a yogurt drink) which she put a drug into it making her paralyzed and is then raped. Mumtaz continues this abuse and makes her do terrible stuff. Mumtaz does not value a young girls life and only thinks girls like Lakshimi are worth 10,000 rupees. Mumtaz even scams her and tells her she must stay until she pays of 20,000 rupees. she makes the young innocent girls suffer and makes them believe that there is no hope. Mumtaz Tries to make the girls have children so they must work there for the rest of their lives and the kids will have to work for her too. Lakshmi’s parents should be payed more than 500 rupees per month but only got 500 rupees for her in total ripping the parents off. Mumtaz pays the goondas (the people that hunts you down and beats you if you run away) and the police so that the young women can’t escape, and people wont ever know about these bad actions. When a new girl accepted a bracelet called a bangle from a customer Mumtaz punished her by putting chilli peppers in her private spot which is very painful. Lakshimi discovers that in a year, she will be able to leave the happiness house and the cruel environment, but Mumtaz adds bills like the television and electricity bill making her stay much longer. In conclusion, Mumtaz is a is a cruel and manipulative person that abuses innocent girls and causes them to give up on their hopes and dreams.
