Trigonometry

In our lessons of the trigonometry we learned how to calculate the measure of an angle in a right angle triangle. I find this the most fascinating because I’ve always enjoyed learning about angles.

To calculate an angle in a right angle triangle, you need know know the lengths of at least two sides. Depending on what side lengths you have, the trigonometric ratio you use will be different. These ratios are SOH CAH TOA ( S= \frac{O}{H} , C= \frac{A}{H} , T= \frac{O}{A}

To find an angle of a right triangle you start out by labelling every side, depending on where the angle is located. The opposite side is the side “opposite” of the angle and the adjacent side is the side right beside the angle. The hypotenuse is the side opposite from the right angle, it is also the longest side.
Once you have labelled the sides, it is now clear what side is what and which you have angles for. You then take these lengths and write them in the correct trigonometric ratio. After you have written the right trigonometric ratio, you write out the equation and plug it into your calculator.
