Week 5 in Math 10

This week in math I learned how to convert imperial measurements. A helpful way to start is to think of the imperial system like a staircase (example in picture) miles is on top and then yards, feet, inches. Miles to yards is 1760 (going down, you multiply. Going up, you divide) then yards to feet is 3, and feet to inches is 12. So, if you have a number in feet and inches, let’s use 5’6″ as an example, and you want to convert that to inches, then you would start by multiplying the 5ft/1 by 12in/1ft. You cancel out the feet since there is one on the bottom and one on the top and you’re left with 60in. You add the other 6in and you’re left with 5’6″= 66in. This works the same way for converting other imperial measurements, just remember going down the staircase = multiply & going up the staircase = divide.
