  • Tuesday and Wednesday – writing/practicing/ intro to the novel
  • Thursday and Friday – November 28, 29 = In-class performances!!! Be ready to go πŸ™‚

 

Monday, November 25

 

  • tone, pacing and delivery practice/activity
  • continue to write and practice your spoken word – Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Sahn Kim has volunteered to go first; so it will proceed alphabetically from there; we will have around 15 go on Thursday and 15 people go on Friday:
  • The order of the line-up unless someone wants to go in your place:
    • Thursday: Sahn, Alexandria, Amelia, Megan, Londyn, Kiera, Cate, Jayden, Ivan, Nika, Hannah, Alexander, Thomas, Maddie, Claire
    • Friday: Elizabeth, Antonio, William, Kara, Violet, Seannah, Maelle, Owen, Arielle, Taylor, Mona, Calia, Mia, Amina, Kara

Friday, November 22

  • Make sure that you uploaded your favourite Abstract, Concrete poem to the Padlet – link in TEAMS
  • Warm-up ActivityΒ  – share some of the poems
  • Fourth Journal Entry (#5 on the Scales document) – Communication Poem – instructions in the WG tab of the Blog
    • while people are working on this writing activity, I will be calling people up with their journals for evidence of brainstorming around the following:
      • topic – what is your Spoken Word about?
      • purpose – what will you communicate to your audience? What might the take-away be?
      • tone – serious, poignant, funny, satirical?
      • format – a slam poem? a story? a mash-up of the two?
      • delivery – by yourself? or with another person?

 

Thursday

  • Anyone willing to share their I Am From poem?
  • One option for Spoken Word – a story! we will watch some and map how they fit the narrative steps outlined in the Plan, Perfect, Practice, Perform document
  • Third Journal Entry – #3 on the Scales Journal document – recipe is on the blog:
    • Concrete Abstract Poem and Padlet link in the WG tab

Wednesday

  • Another Master – take note of the devices first on the handout – then we will watch the performance
  • In your journal, write down:
    • a thematic statement of purpose
    • your favourite line from the Sarah Kay’s Slam Poem
  • Identity prompts: Second Journal Entry is #4 in the Spoken Word Scales – the ‘recipe’ for I Am From poem is in the Writing and Grammar tab of the blog

 

Tuesday

  • view various β€˜masters’ of Spoken Word – take note of: purpose, language and delivery manipulation
  • first Journal Entry: #1 from the Spoken Word Scales English Honours 9
