- Monday, November 25 – a few more delivery and Journal Writing Activities
- Tuesday and Wednesday – writing/practicing/ intro to the novel
- Thursday and Friday β November 28, 29 = In-class performances!!! Be ready to go π
Monday, November 25
- tone, pacing and delivery practice/activity
- Tuesday and Wednesday – continue to write and practice your spoken word
- It will proceed alphabetically from from whoever goes first; roughly half the class will go on Thursday and the other half on Friday:

Friday, November 22
- I will be calling people up with their journals for evidence of brainstorming around the following:
- topic β what is your Spoken Word about?
- purpose β what will you communicate to your audience? What might the take-away be?
- tone β serious, poignant, funny, satirical?
- format β a slam poem? a story? a mash-up of the two?
- delivery β by yourself? or with another person?
- I will also be checking for 4 entries in the journal (see below)
- Fifth Journal Entry – Complete # 9 from the English Studies 12 Warm-Up Exercises
- you should have your idea for your Spoken Word, but if you don’t:
- UTILIZE the resources on the Writing and Grammar tab of the blog
- SPEND some time reading some of the poems in the Padlet posts – don’t copy but some of the entries might spark an idea
- LOOK at and try one of either #4, 6, 7 or 8 in the English Studies 12 Warm-Up Exercises
- REMEMBER:
- All work for your spoken word must be completed in the Journal
- I will be looking for integration into your story and/or Slam poem integration of some of the skills we have been practicing
Thursday, November 21
- We will read some of the Concrete Abstract Poems
- anyone will to share their I am From poem?
- Fourth Journal Entry is #5 – The Communication Poem from the English Studies 12 Warm up document. See the ‘recipe’ on the blog
- for tomorrow: be up to date in your journal (four entries so far) AND have your idea for your spoken word: topic, sense of purpose (what you want to communicate or share), tone? (funny, serious, satirical) format? (story or slam poem or a mash-up of the two?), by yourself or with someone? etc.
Wednesday, November 20
- option for Spoken Word – a story! we will watch some and map how they fit the narrative steps outlined in the Plan, Perfect, Practice, Perform document
- You should have your Second Journal Entry completed (#3 I am From poem)
