Desmos Holiday Card

When I started this project I wasn’t sure where to start, but I decided that I would just start with the lettering and figure out the rest while I was doing that. My original plan for the lettering was to use the same aspect ratio for every letter but I soon found out that the some letters would look weird. I decided I would do a different aspect ratio for each letter but try and have them all have the same thickness. I also did the letters in ‘Christmas’ a little bit smaller than ‘Merry’ because there are more letters. I thought that the letters R and S would be the hardest letters to do, but actually the only hard letter was R because I had to do it with two different ratios because the letters in Christmas were smaller. For the S I planned out what to do before I did anything on the graph and it made the letter a lot easier to do. At this point I realized I needed to use function notation which I didn’t even realize you could do in Desmos. I didn’t really want to go back and change what I had already done so I then tried to incorporate function notation into my graph at this point, but I couldn’t really find a way where it was useful. I had already gotten used to just copying and pasting my previous functions and then transforming them from there. Utilizing function notation was kind of annoying because I had to set up the function and it didn’t help to make the project any easier, nevertheless I still used it because I had to. For the letters I used only linear and quadratic functions, so I made sure to use all the required functions while I made my self portrait. I didn’t find it very difficult to find ways to incorporate these functions into my portrait because you can make a lot of useful shapes with them. I didn’t really need any help for this project. The only thing I didn’t know how to do was fill in parts of the graph, but all i had to do was google it and it was not that difficult to do. I was also disappointed with how few colours there were to choose from. After finishing this project, I didn’t really learn much or become any better at graphing. I also felt as if my time could be better used studying for the final exam.

Mountain Journey questions

1. He was out in the wilderness collecting furs from animals because he was a trapper.

2. When he decides not to rest under the tree and not make a fire. He admits himself that it was a mistake.

3. His first mistake was to not stop and make a fire. His second was when his fingers got wet and he decided to keep going. His third mistake was to go to the cabin. It would all have been prevented if he had stopped under the tree.

4. The exposition is that Dave Conroy is a trapper that is traveling through a forest during a cold winter night. The complicating incident is that he decides not to stop under the tree. The rising action is that Dave Conroy falls through the ice and gets his fingers wet. The second is that he didn’t make it to the cabin because it had burned down. The third is that he can’t light the match to make a fire and he drops it. The climax is that he falls asleep. The falling action is him halucinating.

5. It’s a cold winter night in a forest that is located somewhere near northern Alberta. If it wasn’t cold or winter Dave would have lived. The theme is to not go against what you know is right just to speed things up.

6. The open door to the cottage represents the door to heaven.

Proteus Syndrome

Hello there, I am a cell. I’m going to tell you my story of how I am different than other cells. So when the the fertilized egg divided into more cells instead of dividing into a regular cell I divided into a mutated cell. The difference between me and other cells is that my AKT1 gene has an A instead of a G. Since I am a cell and I have to keep dividing I divided more cells with the same problem as me. Eventually the  cells became an embryo and then that embryo became a human. The human that we made though has proteus syndrome because I mutated.

But what is proteus sydnrome? Proteus syndrome causes and overgrowth of skin, bone, muscles, fatty tissues, and blood and lymphatic vessels. At first I didn’t notice any problems with my human but then after a while my human started to develop these symptoms. It also doesn’t run in the family and is a random occurence while an egg is dividing into an embryo.

My human went to a doctor for help and he said that it could lead to premature death and that asked if it had symptoms like arthritis or muscle pain, luckily my human had none of these symptoms. He also said there are no learning disabilites related to this syndrome. The doctor said that there is no cure for the syndrome there is some treatment like rapamycin but there is no official conclusion that this helps.

my human was doing some research and I recorded some facts about Proteus syndrome. It turns out that Proteus syndrome is a type of genetic mosaicisme. There was some research done about the syndrome that points toward the condition being linked to PTEN in chromosome 10 but there is also research about it being linked to chromosome 16. Thanks for listening to my mutation story and I hope you learned something new.

The questions that I had to ask were: What causes Proteus syndrome? How does proteus syndrome affect you? What is the treatment for Proteus syndrome? What are some facts about Proteus Syndrome?The digital tools I used were websites because they are easy to use and access.The process I used was that I did researcg and then I tried to answer the questions and fulfill the criteria at the same time.I verified the websites because one of them was a trusted website and the other was a .gov website. I think I did a good job completing this assignment but what I would do better is that I would have aswered the question first and then added more to fulfill the criteria.
