Bard in the Classroom Reflection

Last week, we had 2 people from “Bard on the Beach” come into our classroom. They came for 3 days and they taught us about the play “Much Ado About Nothing”. I was only there for the first day so I didn’t get to experience all 3 days. Something I really enjoyed about “Bard on the Beach” was doing the tableaus. Before that I hadn’t really done anything like that and I thought it was very enjoyable. We did tableaus of comedies, romance, and tragedies. I don’t think we did a tableau for history. I also learned all 4 types of Shakespearean plays, which happens to be those 4: romance, comedy, history, and tragedy. We were given mean lines, which we were supposed to say to a person in a mean tone. That person would also say something mean back. After we did that we had to say our line to the person again, but this time we would say it in a nice tone. We then did more tableaus, but this time we did tableaus that had to do with the play “Much Ado About Nothing”. We learned about the characters in the play “Much Ado About Nothing” like Benedich and Hero. There wasn’t really anything that I didn’t enjoy. The first day seemed really fun and enjoyable, but I wasn’t there for the other two, so I can’t really say much for them. If there was anything that I didn’t like it was that I thought we were going to watch the play. I realized that we weren’t going to watch the play when I walked in and saw only two guys dressed in everyday clothing instead of several people dressed in the clothing they would need for the play.

In the picture above is a tableau of a tragedy. I watch as my classmate is being stabbed.

Information Fluency

WEBSITE CREDIBILITY

The first way to check if a site is real is to check the URL. If the URL is something like .org or .gov then it’s usually a good sign. another way to check is to see when it was last updated, the more recent the better. The third way is to look at the quality of the site, good quality is another good sign.

SESSION REFLECTION:

I learned how to tell if a website is a hoax or if it’s real. We spent the most time doing that so I learned the most about that.

Holocaust Memoir

WW2 Memoir
It’s getting late.  I should check on the Jews in the cellar before my husband gets home. He’s a doctor that helps injured Nazi soldiers and a supporter of the Nazi beliefs. Unlike him I do not support the Nazi beliefs. I am a housewife and I work at home all day. While I’m at home I feed the Jews that I hide in my cellar. My husband hasn’t found them yet. He doesn’t go down there very often since we keep food down there and he doesn’t cook or do much housework. There are 3 Jews in the cellar and I plan to help them leave Germany soon. I myself would like to leave Germany and go to a place like America but I’m afraid that my family will see me as a coward and they will abandon me. Once a week my husband brings his fellow Nazis to our house to talk and drink. If they try and go to the cellar to get anything, there is always the  chance that they could find the Jews and it would be over for me and my husband. That’s why it’s important to get the Jews out of the country as soon as possible. I hear the front door open, it must be my husband. He walks into the kitchen with an upset look on his face. He says ,”Agnes, I’m going to have to leave to Poland in a week.”. I respond, “Why?”. He answers,”They need more doctors to help the injured in Poland.”. He walks to the living room and sits down in one of the chairs. I go over and ask,”What will happen to me?”. He says,”Don’t worry Agnes. My brother is going to come live here to make sure you are alright.”. This is not good. His brother is a carpenter and will need to keep tools in the cellar. If he finds the Jews he will surely turn me in to the SS. “When is he arriving?”, I ask. he responds,”In a week.”. I go back to the kitchen. I need to help the Jews leave the country before he arrives. If I don’t all of us will be dead.
Analysis:
The memoir is about a German women living in Germany. Her husband is a doctor that helps injured soldiers. Her husband is a supporter of the Nazi beliefs while she is not. She is not happy with the situation in Germany and the treatment of Jews, so she decides to hide Jews in her cellar. She takes care of them and makes sure they are alright. She wants to help them leave the country and get to safety but it would be very difficult. She also wants to leave and go to safer country, but she is scared that her family will abandon her. Her husband arrives home with bad news, that he will be leaving to another country and that his brother will live with her. Her brother will find the Jews when he puts his tools in the basement, so she must hurriedly get the Jews out of the country.
