Revisiting Midterm Goal Setting – June 17th
My Midterm goals for Physics 11 revolved around: Sophisticating my lab skills by improving my communication and improving my problem-solving abilities by thoroughly answering questions (for example on tests) with detail and good communication. From reviewing my progress since midterm, I can see that I have met my goals.
Since the midterm, I really focused on doing all my assignments, labs, and tests, with precision, detail and effort. Now, I can see that it has also paid off in my results. For example, in my ENERGY test, I studied with effort, answered all questions to the full extent and showed all the steps, and in the test I went over each answer, taking time and effort. Another example, with my Friction lab, I worked on my communication and spent well-worth time communicating the results I received. Additionally, what helped in this lab, was taking the lab slow and getting both precise and accurate results so I would have something to form my conclusion out of.
However, the path to meeting my goal was not all successful. For example, the DYNAMICS test did not go how I ideally wanted. Although I felt confident about the test and confident with the test I submitted, something had not gone as planned. Once reviewing the test I realized it was because I rushed through the test, and did not properly read through all of the questions and answers. This challenge was a big learning bump, and I think what ultimately led me to work extra hard for the rest of the semester.
Finally, our Physics 11 course concluded with an example of an OPEN BOOK FINAL, with our MOTOR CAR PROJECT. I am very very very proud of how I handled this project, and how it resulted! I felt that this project was truly a chance to showcase all that I had learned in the Physics 11 course, and how much I had improved. The project was faced with many difficulties and challenges, for example, the remote, wheels, and friction. However, I took the problem-solving skills I had learned and improved throughout the course and applied them to the project. My practice of being both precise and accurate led to us having an amazing car, and my practiced communication skills helped me in my individual write-up assignment Ultimately all my hard work since the Midterm Goals Assignment worked, as our car not only moved forward and backward, but so fast it won the race.
In the future, I can take these skills into the future, and continue to work on them. They will not only help me in all future Physics classes but also every class whether it be English, Socials, Gym, Art, Math, etc. Additionally, they will help me in everyday life, as now I have become an even harder worker!
Finally, in addition in the future, the next goal I would like to focus on is: Not getting frustrated when I make mistakes. Often, when I get a question wrong, I let it defeat me slightly. However, if I work on this, to accept failure and let it help me learn, I could become an even stronger student. So I will be working on this in the future!
