HCE 9 – English Write Kieran Minor

I believe this image shows a weakening, difference and change with in the Frist Nations many cultures and children. On the left of the image everyone is wearing the same whites’ clothes. This shows what residential schools can do many first nations, because the schools strip their own language and culture from them. Making them robot like. However, everyone on the left is filled with life and culture. This image also shows what the Canadian government did to the people of our land before us. It’s Ironic that the first peoples welcomed the newcomers with open hearts, but the visitors took the land and tortured the younger generations of first nations, the land, and its resources. In spite of first people showing pure kindness and peace, the newcomers were incapable of learning from them due to their lack of collaboration and respect. First peoples were instead forced to adapt to European wasteful lifestyles. Humans were the only thing that mattered to the Europeans. However, maybe the newcomers should have learned from the first peoples to be selfless and to practice grace and equality towards everyone and especially everything. It would have been much more beneficial for the newcomers to have learned from the first people instead of viciously stealing their identities from them.

HCE 9 – English Write “Gender podium”

What am I looking at?

The image “Gender podium” by Adriana Mosquera Soto shows a basic and understandable image of gender inequality. The image shows women holding men above their heads in the shape of a podium. I believe this image shows that women go unnoticed behind their men. I also think the image wants to promote gender equality, and how women should be viewed, treated, and paid the same as men. This is a powerful image that conveys an important message. It speaks about how women should be treated with respect and dignity, and that men should not be seen as better or more important than women. The image also promotes the idea that everyone should be treated equally, regardless of gender.

How does make me feel?

This image makes me feel sad in a way. I feel this way because this image can represent real life and what women go through. This image can symbolize the difficulties women face in the workplace due to sexism and discrimination. Women are also treated unfairly and are deprived of opportunities and support in many industries because of this. This picture is also a reminder of how far we still have to go in achieving gender equality. It is a reminder that we must continue to fight for those who are less fortunate and for those who are still facing discrimination.

What does the image/picture seem to be trying to say?

The picture is trying to advocate for equal rights between men and women. They are showing that women go unseen even though they are putting in lots of work. This emphasizes the importance of recognizing and valuing women’s efforts and contributions. Women should be treated with respect and dignity, and they should have access to the same opportunities as all men.

Indigenous Exploration – Stereotyping and Discrimination

Refection:

Q.

How does your artifact (audio recording) tie in with what you have learned before? How has your thinking changed? What made it change?

A. The Podcast tied in with what I learned by giving me more information on the topics we researched. It also made me think more about what I say and what people can take offence by.  It made me change my thinking because I only thought there were a few stereotypes. However, through research, I discovered more. With this project, I learned a lot about the First nation peoples of Canada and what they have been through.
