Electric House Project

This past week Shaden and I have been working on our electric house project. We built a house of cardboard, and added lights with different types of circuits to it, and decor. In This blogpost I have included pictures of our completed house, the drawings of the circuits, my project questions, and my core competency reflection.

Project Questions

1. You have three lights bulbs. All have the same intensity when lit. Explain how you can prove to a classmate that they are connected in series by unscrewing one light bulb. Support your answer.

If it’s a series circuit all the other lights should stop working, since if one bulb is taken out, or burnt out, they will all go off. This happens because it opens the circuit and the current will not be able to pass to the other light bulbs.

2. You have three light bulbs. All have the same intensity when lit. Explain how you can prove to a classmate that they are connected in parallel by unscrewing one light bulb.

If it’s a parallel circuit then the rest of the 2 bulbs should still work, even though one bulb was taken out. This is because the way the circuit is set up, it still allows the electrons to flow to all the other bulbs.

3. You have three light bulbs. Two are connected in parallel. This parallel combination is connected in series with the third light bulb. Describe the relative intensity of each bulb. Support your answer.

The one bulb that is in the series circuit has the brightest inststisty out of the 3 bulbs and is using 6volts from the 9 volt battery. Though the 2 bulbs in the parallel circuit are not as intense as the other bulb because they are using 3 volts each. I know this because I used an app where I could build my own circuit and use a virtual voltmeter on the circuit giving me an accurate answer.

4. In question number three, describe the relative intensities of the two remaining lit bulbs if one of the bulbs in parallel was unscrewed. Support your answer.

When one bulb in the parallel circuit is taken out, then the other bulb in the parallel circuit becomes more intense and the one in the series circuit becomes less intense. I know this because I used a virtual circuit maker that gave me accurate answers.

Core Competency Reflection:

Hunger Games Journal Entries

Chapter 18

1. How is decorating Rue with flowers a sign of protest? What is she protesting? Why won’t it be shown much on television?
How decorating rue with flowers is a sign of a protest is was symbolizing how short her life was and that she sacrificed it to be a tribute in the hunger games. It was to show that she was more then just a random person in the games being watched on tv that has no feelings or pain, because she does, and they all do. It won’t be shown on television because then the people will feel bad for watching and letting people make kids kill each other.

2. Why do the Gamemakers change the rules?

The game makers change the rules, because Peeta and Katniss are known as star cross lovers. The Capitol probably want them to be together and it would be a good storyline in the show.

Chapter 14 and 15 Journal Entries

1. Theme
Using your topic sheet – find TWO topics that are looked at or highlighted in these chapters – Write a THEME statement for both of these topics that can be proven using evidence from chapters 14 and 15

The theme is sometimes you have to sacrifice things for the people you love. Evidence that shows this in chapters 14 and 15 is when Katniss felt betrayed, but was in trouble, Peeta then seemed to act that he cared for her. Peeta said to Katniss “Get up! Get up!” I rise, but he’s still pushing at me. What? What is going on? He shoves me away from him hard. “Run!” he screams. “Run!””. Peeta had risked his life for Katniss, if he didn’t care about her or lose er, he wouldn’t have risked his life for her when he was supposed to be her enemy. Earlier in the book too, Peeta confessed his love to Katniss, but covered it up to Katniss by saying that it was part of his plan in getting people to sponsor him.

Another theme in the story is sometimes you just have to fight through the journey and push through the struggles no matter how hard it can be. How chapters 14 and 15 show this is when Katniss has to hit for her life, even when injured and how hard it has got for, she continues to at least try to survive and is pushing through for her life. In the story it shows pretty much throughout the whole thing her journey and pushing through it but one quote that shows in chapter 14 is “Whatever happens, I’m going to have to move and move fast.” How this shows evidence is that she is going to push through even though it might not end well and in her words “whatever happens”. Another one is “The swelling. The pain. The ooze. Watching Glimmer twitching to death on the ground.” How this shows evidence is that she has to go through the journey of killing and watching people get killed and has to get through I, even though its very hard.

2. Define:
1. sated – (past tense) To be satisfied (a desire or appetite) to the full
4. astronomical – enormously great (price)
5. eradicate – to completely destroy or put an end to something
6. putrid – (organic matter) decaying and or rotting that emits a foul smell
3. Comprehension

Chapter Fourteen
1. How does Katniss escape the Tributes waiting for her beneath the tree?
How Katniss escaped was she saw a tracker jacker nest, and they were partially sedated from smoke, and she cut the nest making it fall on the ground stinging them all, and some even to death. Tracker jackers can kill you and even one sting could. They then all run to the lake so Katniss can escape when they are not there.

2. What does Kat realize right before she passes out?
Katniss realizes right before she passes out is that Peeta actually helped her out even though she thought he betrayed her earlier.

Chapter Fifteen
1. What did Kat get from Glimmer’s body? Why is this significant?
Katniss got Glimmer’s bow and arrows from her. This is significant to Katniss because shooting bows and arrows is her secret specialty that she is very good at.

2. Why does Kat want Rue for an ally?
Katniss wants Rue for an ally because they need each other if either of them wan to survive. She also saved Katniss’ life from the Tracker Jackers. Rue also reminds Katniss of her little sister Prim.

Chapter 2

How does Katniss save Prim from the Reaping?
How Katniss saved Prim from the reaping is that she volunteered to go instead of her. After the person is chosen anyone can volunteer to take their place and Katniss did.

2. How did Kat’s mother react to her husband’s death?
After Katniss’ father died, her mother wasn’t able to take care of Katniss and Prim. Her mother became very sad and lifeless.

3. Describe Kat’s only previous encounter with Peeta Mellark.
Katniss’ family was starving to death, and she was looking in the trash bin for any bread and the Bakers Wife kicked her out. Peeta Mellark after came out and gave Katniss 2 loafs of partially burnt bread. He got hit by the Bakers Wife, but still gave it to her with his kindness.
4. Why does Katniss not want to be competing in the Hunger Games with Peeta Mellark?
Katniss doesn’t want to be competing in the Hunger games with Peeta Mellark because of the kindness he did for giving her the bread, she can’t stand having to kill him since he did something so kind. She hopes that someone will kill him before she has to.

Critical Thinking Question:
Write in complete sentences and in paragraph form
Journal 2: Write a short flashback from your own life – try and remember a time someone did something really nice for you, for no real reason. What happened? Why do you think they did this for you?

Something that was done really nice for me, for no real reason is when my Nona bought me Pink Vans. I was at the mall with my Nona and I saw the shoes and I really liked them, but they didn’t have my size, so I just left the mall without the shoes. So a week later I came home from school and my someone was at my house. I found out it was my Nona. She went all the way to Richmond to get me the Pink Vans in the correct size for no reason at all. It made me so happy that she did this for me and I thanked her so much. I think the reason why she did this for me is that we are family and that she loves me a whole lot. She did such a kid gesture that touched my heart and made me so very happy.

Should we fully stop killing animals worldwide and only use biotechnology for making leather and meat?

The process that I went through for this is Project is that I started off by watching the ted ed video on making lab made leather, and then filled in the worksheet, so i would get a decent understanding on it. I then filled out the template for finding more information on this topic. Some things I searched up is different religions that can’t eat meat that pull be effected by this, the technology used to make the lab made meat, the pros and cons to it, etc. After doing tons of research, I then wrote te Solution to using this technology and what we would have to overcome. I then started to work on my PowerPoint, and wrote point form notes. I then went deeper into what I wrote in the point form on the notes section. I added pictures to each slide, and eventually added my bibliographies. The end result turned out really well. I think in some spots I should have added more information and went more in depth, but overall it looks very good

P.E. 9 Substance Abuse Role Play

1. What are the influences involved in your role play?

The influence involved where peer pressure from friends. Also the feeling of needing to do it, because everyone else is.

3. Explain the conflict/issues that were resolved

The conflict that was resolved was not wanting to have beer when offered at a party, so denying the offer.

4. How would using these skills make te person in the role play more risilliant?

The skills make the person in the role play more risilliant because they handled a hard situation to be in calmly and quickly with no hesitation.

The Sniper – One Minute Videos

For Our video we filmed outside on different levels of stairs for the setting since in the story they say they are outside on buildings, so everyone would be at a different ground level. We also used different props to show the setting of the story. Some of the Props we used were a fake cigarette, nerf guns, and a car. These show that it takes place during a war, and that it would take place from either 1885-now, because cars and cigarettes were not both invented until those times. For the Characterization the actions the characters made against Each other showed that since they were shooting each other, that they were all enemies; but the part that showed when the guy shot his brother, it showed that he had a soft spot towards his family, and was very emotional at that moment when it came to family. We did show all 5 plot points. In the first part of the video we didn’t show that we were at war, but the story says that there is, though since we were all shooting each other, it shows that they were fighting. We showed every part in the story, but in shorter words, and we didn’t take any big parts out. The Theme of the sniper is think before you act, because you never know what the consequences will be. In the sniper he was killing innocent people that he didn’t know their back stories, and in return of killing them, he accidentally shot his brother then came to realize, but it was too late.

My roles in making he film was Drawing the map out of our scene, making the props, and acting in the video. One thing I did well in this project was quickly and efficiently painted and helped cutting out the car. One thing I could have done better is I could have helped out in the layout making more. Our group communicated decently, when someone was away or sick, we could easily contact them for the information that they had.
