Week 7 – Math 10 – factoring trinomials

Factoring trinomials is not hard if you can or want to use my method of solving it.

( Questions made by me)

Question 1)

Step 1: First make a square, than make a cross inside the square.

Step 2: Now put the X square in the top left part of the box and put the product or 3 in the bottom right box, the reason we are doing this is because 3 is a number on its own meaning it has no letters with it.

Step 3: Now try to figure out what two numbers can multiply to make 3 but also add to make 4 we need to do this in order to find the numbers that would start this question.

Step 4: Now put two X’s on the top left corner of the box as X multiply by X equals X square then add a 3 and 1 with one of the X’s, it doesn’t matter where you put them (Look at the image above to better understand what am talking about).

Step 5: Now put the X and 3 together and do the same thing for the other X and 1 with brackets.

Answer: (X+3)(X+1)

Question 2

Step 1: Just do the same thing as you did in the first question, but for this question you just to use some minuses and remember a negative times a negative equals a positive.

Answer: (X-5)(X-2)
