Before you start reading this post (if anyone’s reading this at all) You have a calculator you can’t do trigonometry without one
One mor thing, these are the three ratios you are going to need to do this math (I don’t know why it’s like this so just work with it, also with the images are bury I then am sorry I couldn’t fix it)
Question 1
Step 1: The first thing you should when finding a side length is label which side is which each side will have its own word, Always remember to label the sides.
The longest side/ side above the right angle is always the Hypotenuse or Hyp for short.
The side Opposite to the random angle (not the right angle) in the triangle is always the Opposite or Opp for short.
The last side is called the Adjacent or Adj for short.
Step 2: Once you have labeled the sides you now need to know which sides length you need to first, in the picture I made you can see that X is the number we need to find we also see that X is the Opposite side and since the Hypotenuse is the other side with a number we are going to be using a sine ratio to solve this (if you don’t know what am talking about then look at the top of this blog post) so all you need to do now is make a fraction for X and 8.2 just remember Sine ratio is Opposite over Hypotenuse, try to make the fraction yourself if you can’t do it then look at the picture.
Step 3) Now you need to use the angle in the triangle just put Sin 19=opposite over hypotenuse
Step 4) Now you need to isolate X so take it from the fraction and put it behind an = sign
Step 5) Now your equation should be X = (sin 19) x 8.2 the reason you need brackets for the sin 19 is so that your calculator will now which number is for sin only.
Step 6) This last part is simple just put the equation in to your calculator your going to need to use a button that says sin on it, hopefully you had done it right if not then that’s ok just try again.
Answer: Calculate to the nearest tenth your answer should be 2.7
Question 2
(Editors note: if you notice that the question in the image says question 3 that was a mistake please ignore)
Step 1) This is basically same as the last question but this time you need to use cosine because you need to find the length of the Adj side and you already have the length of the Hyp side
Step 2) Now do the same thing you did in the last question but this time change the numbers (if you can’t do it then look at the first image at the top of this blog post)
Step 3) Your Equation should be (cos 66) x 13.5 now use your calculator.
Answer: Your answer should 5.5
Question 3
Step 1) This question is a bit different then the last 2 question this time we are not going to use the Hyp side, time time we only going to use the Opp and Adj sideĀ
Step 2) The first part of this question is simple just do what you did before but and change the numbers again, since were using both Opp and Adj side we need to use Tangent to evaluate (if you can’t do it then look at the first image at the top of this blog post)
Step 3) Now if you have noticed the X is on the bottom of the fraction so we are going to need to divide instead of multiply (I don’t know why its like this so just go with it and remember if the X is on the top of the fraction you multiply and if its on the bottom then you divide)
Step 4) Now use your calculator again.
Answer: your answer should be 2.7
