Digital Footprint

How might your digital footprint
affect your future opportunities?
Give at least two examples.

Although i didn’t find much about myself on the internet other than an old editing account I can understand how scary it can be not knowing how much of your information is being put out in the public without your permission.

The first big way your digital footprint could affect your future would be with photography.  Photos are a huge way people can be misunderstood, people don’t realize that just because you have you settings set to private on your social media accounts it doesn’t mean that you photo wont get out past you account. This is why you shouldn’t even bother sharing these photos even to a private account because you really don’t know what the internet does with your information. People also don’t think about the fact that there are still 100’s of people on your so called “private account” and chances are most of these people aren’t very trustworthy. Having any photo from your account leaked whether its inappropriate or has some cruelty or hate incorporated into it, can spread like wildfire throughout the internet.

Now to get back to how these photos can affect your future opportunities, by having photos spread around not only can you start to lose a large majority of your friends but it can also severely affect your career chances. As most companies do a background search on you before they simply hire you it will only take a click of a button for them to see your digital footprint and even if you think you’ve deleted something it will always be online.

Another example of how your digital footprint can affect your future is through your words. Your words are a huge deal when it comes to commenting or messaging someone personally. You really never know how someone will take your words in and even if you meant it in a “joking way” they may not take it in that way. That is why it is so important to think before you speak, not only can it affect a person personally but they could also be in the wrong mind and could share what you just said to hundreds of other people which could cause more and more people to dislike you over time. When you go on and start saying rude things to people on your so called “private chat” you have no idea what they are going to do with what your saying and it would take them a split second to get the cops involved.

Describe at least three strategies
that you can use to keep your
digital footprint appropriate and
safe.

1.  I can make sure i am not putting anything on my social media platforms that i wouldn’t want people to see.

2. Always think before i speak, I need to think about the things that i am about to put out for everyone to see and make sure i process it fully so that i don’t make any mistakes.

3. I can insure that I have a strong password that nobody would be able to guess.

What information did you learn
that you would pass on to other
students? How would you go
about telling them?

Honestly the one big thing I learnt is to think before i speak, upload, or send a message. You have no idea what other people are thinking while reading what u just sent, it takes 2 seconds for someone to misunderstand and take it the wrong way.

I will always remind my friends that if they have a grudge against a person to not go out on them through social media and to insure they know the dangers of their words and actions.
