What’s in my junk food

This is one of my favourite fast foods because I like the flavour of the fries and the salt added.

For a small serving (113g) There are 340 calories and a total of 16g of fat.

  1. Fries can be a bad opition because of the oil that the fries absorb. The oil is very high in fat. Polyunsaturated is a organic compound such as a fat or oil molecule.
  2. The wendys fries contain salt. In a small serving there is 247.5 mg of salt. If you have too much salt in your diet, your blood pressure can raise and can effect your kidneys, arteries, brain and heart.

May lab reflection

Hasselback Potatoes:

I chose this lab because it was one of my favorites, it was a challenge, and it is something I have never had before. I enjoyed this lab because it was fun to make and was challenging. First, we had to cut the potato into even small cuts and fill them with butter. Our product turned out well at the end and our group worked together to make the potatoes. Something  I would do differently is to cook them for less time because the top was a little burnt.

Chili Cook-off Reflection

This week we had to prepare for our chili cook-off. Our task was to search for a chili recipe to make in class and have judges come in to taste our chili. At first, we had some troubles finding a recipe because we were unsure of what time of chili we wanted to make. Also, we had to consider the amount of time it takes to make the recipe since we only had a day to make it and then the next day to heat it up again. We then found a recipe that called for an hour making time which was perfect. The ingredients included ground beef, tomato sauce, garlic, beans, and spices included chili powder, cayenne, oregano, and cumin.   When we first started to make our chili, it turned out spicier than we intended. To balance out the chili, we added a bit of brown sugar which made it sweet. At the end, it balanced out with the spice and our chili was a combination of sweet and spicy. The judges liked our final product and so did we. Something I think we could do differently is to add a bit less sugar. Our final product turned out better than I expected at the beginning.

Salad Rolls

Salad Rolls:

  1. I enjoyed this lab because I have never made these salad rolls before

2. To make this recipe healthier, you can add avocado for good fats and instead of rice paper, you can wrap it up in the lettuce leaf and/or replace rice vermicelli with quinoa to reduce the simple starches in this recipe. Instead of shrimp, you can use smoked salmon or chicken.

3. Deep frying adds too many saturated fats and it is not good to fry with vegetable oils because most of those oils become damaged at high heats and cause health problems. when indigested
