Family Immigration Timeline/Postcards

My family moved to Canada from Sambon Gyeonggi, South Korea. We moved to Canada on August 24th, 2007, when I was 5 years old. We moved to Canada because when my parents traveled to Vancouver when I was a baby, they liked everything about it here so when I was 5 years old we decided to become immigrants. Our family was the first people to settle in Canada because none of my grandparents or ancestors came to Canada before us. My family and I traveled here by plane and by car after we arrived at the Vancouver International Airport. My family settled in Port Coquitlam because when we first came to Vancouver, there was a guide that helped us get familiar with Vancouver. My sister needed to go to middle school since she was in grade 7, so the guide recommended Citadel Middle School which is in Port Coquitlam. When we came to Canada we didn’t bring much of what we had back in South Korea. Some of the big things we brought to Canada were money, clothing, laptops, photo albums, and other important documents. We did not bring any furniture, or any other appliances since we bought them here in Canada. Some cultural traditions that are practiced/celebrated back in South Korea are Korean New Years and Chuseok(Korean Thanksgiving). In Canada, we maintained the cultural traditions for the first few years, but after we didn’t really maintain them. We practice the traditions from time to time but we do not celebrate as large as we would back in South Korea. When we moved to Canada, we didn’t face many difficulties or hardships except our difficulty with English and when my dad had to find a job here. For the first year in elementary school, I had a difficult time making friends since I was the only new student in the class while everyone else was close with each other.

More dates for the timeline:

March 2008- We moved from our hotel that we lived in to our first official home in Port Coquitlam

September 2008- Entered my first school in Canada in grade 1 after I skipped kindergarten to study English at home.

May 2010- One of my aunts also came as a immigrant to Canada and lived in Downtown Vancouver, BC.

September 2014- Entered middle school.

My timeline does not have any history of my ancestors settling in Canada so it starts from me.
