Surface Area of a Sphere

For this assignment, we had to cut an orange in half in order to trace the circumference of the circle on to a piece of paper. We then had to trace as many halves of the orange on to the paper. After, we had to peel the oranges and then use the peels to see how many of the circles would fill up. However, the circles have to be filled up completely(no white spaces/ overlapping), so we got to cut the orange peels as small as we wanted. The peels filled up 4 of the circles so I learned that the formula was 4πr^2. I knew that because filling up the circle with peel would be the area and 4 circles were filled up, so you would multiply the area by 4.
