Physics 11 – 3D Printing Final Project

What was the design process

The first step in my design process was figuring out what type of question I wanted to do. To begin I drew out 2 simple drawings, a pully and an elevator question.

I quickly realized that my idea for an elevator question wouldn’t work. So I took the simple pully design and tried to figure out any large problems. The first and most obvious one was balance, it was extremely top-heavy, so I added a large base and spread everything out. That’s how I came about my final design.

The next step was to make it on tinkercad. Once I figured out how the camera controls work, I had no real issues, so it was sent to the printer. The first large problem was the small cylinders that were to hold some of the pieces together. They came out flat and squished. Since the holes were about the same size as toothpicks, that’s what I decided to use instead. Unfortunately, they were too big, so I broke off the tips and sanded them down small enough.

The last problem was that there was too much resistance on the wheels. The first thing I noticed was one of the wheels was slanted, so I bent one of the things holding the wheel in place. Then I sanded the toothpick holding the other wheel in place down a bit more.
