Digital footprint

Your digital footprint can impact your future in both positive and negative ways, it all depends on your footprint. A positive digital footprint will help you a lot in the future, from getting a good job a scholarship at a university, employers will do a great deal of background research on your digital footprint to see if you are the right person for the job. A negative digital footprint is just the opposite, it could prevent you from getting a job or even cause you to lose your job. With the number of things, we do on computers increasing, and from a younger and younger age, we must be increasingly diligent on what we post, as once you post something it can never be removed entirely and in life, there is no control Z.

Your digital footprint is something you want to keep positive. You may not think it but one insulting tweet, inappropriate message or unnecessary comment, you could feel the repercussions of 5, 10, or even 20 years in the future. Here are some tips to keep your digital footprint positive.

1. remember the acronym think. T is it true? Don’t go say something untrue online, it won’t make you feel any better, in fact from my experience hurting others, even accidentally, makes you feel worse. H is it helpful?  Are your actions helping others around you? I am it inspiring? Is it an inspiring message or action in your community. N is it necessary? Does everyone around you need to know what you had for breakfast? Is it a message about something that you think needs to be changed or are you just complaining about it? K is it kind? Are you insulting someone by posting your message? Un-kind messages are completely unnecessary, they will make the other person feel horrible while not helping you at all. If your post fails any of these you might want to reconsider pressing send.

2. another big thing with your digital footprint is simply understanding it. understanding that your digital footprint represents you as much as your room, house or your clothing does, but unlike your room, you can’t just take stuff away from the internet entirely and anyone can look at it not just your friends. On the internet, someone might have reposted it, or taken a screenshot of it. if you understand and take this into account whenever you are online it will go a long way in helping you maintain a positive digital footprint.

3. Don’t post too much, the more you post the more likely you are to post something that a future employer or university may not like costing you your dream job or scholarship at a top university.

Now, of what I have learned what would I pass on. I would probably tell you about most of the things I have learned throughout this assignment, but to keep this from being too long I will just tell about the most important things. I think the two most important things I have learned would be that anything negative you post online will stay there forever and even 1 negative post amongst thousands of positive ones can and will have serious effects later in your life.

The other important thing I have learned is that yes, if you have a negative digital footprint it can be horrible for your future, but if your digital footprint is positive, it will have the opposite effect. Where a negative digital footprint can prevent you from getting that job a positive one will set you apart from all others, Where a negative digital footprint will lose you your job a positive one can get you that job. where a negative digital footprint will cost you a scholarship, a positive one will et you one.

Throughout this article, I have been talking about all sorts of negative things to do with a negative digital footprint. With this you may be thinking that all these dangers are too big of a risk to take, but no. The world around us is getting more and more digital every day and people are using it to present ideas, share with people around the world and complete group assignments by sharing pictures working on a shared document or simply using it to communicate with other people in your group.

In today’s world a non-existent digital footprint yes is better than a negative one, but with about a positive digital footprint, jobs, scholarships and other things will keep getting harder. the digital world is here whether we like it or not.
