In class we had to discuss about a political ideology that was given to us. We were put into groups. My group was conservatism. It was very interesting to learn about something that i had no background knowledge about. We then came up with arguments on what our political ideology would do in specific situations. We learned that conservatism in on the right wing. The conservatists dont like change and want to keep things the same. (Referring to the status quo) They are very strict on maintaining law and order, with very strict punishments. Something interesting was that we were put into random groups and no one in my group had any background knowledge on this ideology. A challenge was coming up with an argument that we disagreed with. Some things we thought were unfair and unjust but we had to share what our ideology would have done. Another challenge was trying to share what our ideology would do in a situation without making us look bad. Overall, my group and I really enjoyed this activity.

Soldiers letter- Socials
Dear Jonathan,
The kids and I are all safe and missing you very much. How is everything with you? We are getting a little worried as we have been hearing that conditions are worsening to the minute. Conditions here are okay, the cost of food has gone up and it’s beginning to get hard to pay for food and necessities for me and the kids. And for the shortage of men, they are now hiring women to fill in those jobs. The only thing that is unfair about it, is that women get lower wages than men for the exact same job. Many women are also wanting to help out in the war as nurses. Mary and Susan were also wondering how Max and Samuel are? The War Measures Act I think is a good thing for us, as we are along to do things for Canada, such as: security, peace, defence and order. Hope your food and equipment is good over there. And we also heard that they are supplying boot for the men in the trenches? Let us know how that is going too. Really hope you can write back this time. Missing you a lot. The kids are saying hi. Okay I have to go now. See you soon.
Love,
Samantha and the kids.
Native Story Assignment- The Story About Illuka
This story is about a man named Illuka (eye-luc-ah) and a girl named Maya. the moral of this story is that “those who are the hardest to love, need it the most.” also bravery and kindness. In this story, no one in the village talks to Illuka and he doesn’t talk to anyone because he is Grumpy all the time. Then Maya comes in looking for her red rock she is brave enough to go to Illuka’s house looking for her rock. She discovers that Illuka is actually very kind and he isn’t grumpy, he is just lonely. He doesn’t have anyone to love and many people, even the elderly listened to and believed all the rumours that were spread about him. So this story also teaches not to spread or listen to rumours.

Individual Multiculturalism Assignment
1. An example of people maintaining and encouraging cultural heritage:
http://www.darpanmagazine.com/events/lifestyle/spirit-of-india-at-pne/
Spirit of India at the fair PNE. This was an event that took place on August 26-27, 2017. This event encouraged many people to come and participate. I actually performed at this event which was a really cool experience. It’s goal was to engage Indians scattered around Vancouver and surrounding areas. The event was open to everyone to share India’s culture and heritage.
2. An example of people discouraging cultural heritage:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/aboriginal-peoples-muslims-face-discrimination-most-poll-1.874710
This is an article by CBC News, it is on discrimination against aboriginal peoples, Muslims and people of colour. It states according to a survey taken in 2010, 28% of 2000 people in Canada faced cultural discrimination and intolerance. It talks about how 20% of coloured people face racism regularly.
Conclusion:
Based on my two samples I think Canada is a multicultural country. I think no matter where you are in the world there are going to be conflicts and discrimination. This servey could easily be outdated and I want to believe that things have improved since 2010, as a matter of fact, I actually do see improvements. People are having cultural festivals and broadcasting them. Poeple are also learning about different cultures and religions at school, and many places are opening up for tours.

Various Perspectives of Canadian Identity
1. Above is a photograph of a quote by John Diefenbaker. I chose this resource because it clearly shows the rights of a Canadian Citizen. It shows the freedom a Canadian has and how proud and privileged we are to be in Canada. It also points out our responsibility to stand by all the other Canadians. I really like when he says “free to oppose what I believe wrong,” because it’s like he is saying “I can express my opinion even if you dont think the same.”
2. This reflects my perspective of Canadian Identity because many people don’t realize how lucky they are to be Canadian and forget about the responsibility that comes with being a Canadian Citizen. I think this is an accurate portrayal of being Canadian because it is written by John Diefenbaker who is a former Prime Minister of Canada.
3. I picked a different time period; The 1700’s. Most men would agree with the statement completely but all the women would beg to differ. Women were not treated equally and did not have equal rights. Women would not be allowed to speak without fear or express their opinions or chose who would govern the country.
- I picked this website because it shows all the different things the Canadian Red Cross/Canadians helps with, not only in Canada but world wide.
- I think this website clearly shows an accurate portrayal of Canada because all the programs are programs that I have actually heard about. For example the Migrant and Refugee Services or Health Services in Canada I have seen before. (In the news, on tv etc.)
- I picked a different cultural background; Syria. They would have a very positive view of the website seeing how the Canadian Red Cross had helped refugees and migrants which might have helped someone they had known. So they definitely agree with my perspective on the resource. Since the civil war in Syria, many Syrians migrated to different countries. And Canada did help around 45,000 refugees!
