I started off with this project hardly knowing how to turn on the desmos app. First thing I did was go over my notes on all the different types of graphs that we covered this year and that had to be included. This step really helped to jog my memory and helped me try and plan out which equations I could use and where. I did face some challenges, as I knew what shape I needed but had difficulty creating the exact function I needed. Once I looked back at my notes, I found the right function to use but then had to do some guessing and checking with the right stretches and transformations to create the exact shape I needed, and to properly restrict the domain so that the functions would not overlap. I also had a lot of trouble figuring out how exactly desmos worked. YouTube tutorials were a life saver. They helped show me how to make folders, help understand domain and range restrictions better and just do simple things such as adding the grid and numbers on the x and y axis. I had a bunch of aha moments when I would successfully create domain and range restrictions so that lines wouldn’t overlap, took a ton of practice and could get pretty tedious, but overtime I got faster and more effiencent. I did get some help from my sister on how I could fit in all 6 of the different functions and domain/range restrictions. I also had to ask some fellow classmates on how they accomplished specific things, such as shading. This eventually then lead me to YouTube videos. I would say this assignment has not only made me an expert on using desmos but has also helped me understand a lot more about transformations and how I can manipulate different functions to create any shape you can imagine. It was great to learn how to actually use this extremely helpful app. I am very proud of my holiday card and all the time and effort I put into making it.
