The direction for BC’s forestry industry
The sustainability of current forestry practices:
In 2016, the BC government attempted to reduce the number of acres of trees that would be involved in conventional clearcutting methods. As of 2016-17, nearly 200,000 acres are for clearcutting while preserving trees, and 190,000 acres of forests became the results of reforestation.
As of 2019, these silvicultural practices have generated $13 billion in Gross Domestic Province (GDP) and has provided 140,000 employment opportunities to British Columbians.
Overall, depending on the needs of other countries across the globe, exporting materials and gaining profits from it is necessary. But people should keep in mind that protecting the forest is also something that people should do, and not excessively taking natural resources away from its own “habitat.”
