Unit Project: Electrical House
Me and my group put together a cardboard house with four rooms: a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, and a dining room. It featured circuitry with lights and switches to add a touch of atmosphere. Each room was nicely decorated and furnished. The bedroom featured cozy decor, while the bathroom was equipped with essential fixtures. The living room had a neat arrangement, and the dining room had a appealing table set for meals. In conclusion, the cardboard house offered a pleasant space.
a) If the light bulbs are in series, unscrewing one bulb would cause all the bulbs to turn off because they are connected in a single path, and removing one interrupts the flow of current.
b) If the light bulbs are in parallel, unscrewing one bulb would not affect the intensity of the others because each bulb has its own separate path for current flow.
c) The two bulbs connected in parallel would have the same intensity, while the bulb in series with them would have a different intensity.
d) If one bulb in parallel is unscrewed, the remaining bulb in parallel would maintain the same intensity, but the bulb in series would turn off.

As a student currently attending Riverside Secondary, I am invested in the environmental health of British Columbia. I want to highlight the vital role of catalytic converters in reducing vehicle emissions. These devices are crucial against air pollution and climate change. However, they face challenges.
Catalytic converters require engine heat to work effectively, leading to energy loss that could power the vehicle. Extracting and using precious metals like platinum, essential for converters, also have significant environmental and energy costs.
I am encouraged by ongoing research to improve converter efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Techniques like the Dynamic Catalytic Converter System (DCCS) and optimizing precious metal particles show promise. Efforts to minimize precious metal usage, down to single atoms, are noteworthy. This reduces extraction costs and prevents greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, exploring alternative technologies such as electricity, propane, and hydrogen, as well as connected and automated vehicles, offers a promising future for our province.
I want your support for research and development in these areas. We can enhance converter effectiveness, minimize environmental impact, and promote sustainable transportation in British Columbia.

1) What questions did you need to research in order to create your sway?
In order to create the sway, I needed to research several questions related to catalytic converters:
– To address the energy losses associated with catalytic converters and their minimization strategies.
– To explore ways to improve the efficiency of catalytic converters.
– To understand the environmental and energy costs linked to the extraction and use of precious metals in these converters.
– To identify alternative technologies available for reducing vehicle emissions.
2) What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?
As I worked on this project, I utilized the following digital tools that I was already familiar with:
Microsoft Sway: I used this tool to create and present my sway, organizing and presenting the information in an engaging format.
Google: I relied on Google for conducting research, finding relevant sources, and gathering information.
3) What was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did you verify and cite the information you found?
The process I followed to investigate the topic involved:
Conducting thorough research using search engines, professional databases, and reputable sources.
Verifying the information obtained by cross-referencing multiple sources to make sure of accuracy and reliability.
Citing the information using the website citationmachine.net and giving credit to the sources used.
4) How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?
Completing this project went smoothly overall. However, there are always areas for improvement. I could have:
Conducted even more extensive research to gather a wider range of perspectives and insights on the topic.
Explored additional digital tools or platforms to enhance the presentation and interactivity of the sway.

Minecraft Biology Project Self-Reflection/Assessment
In our project, we created a cell model using a mansion as our main structure. We used analogies to represent different organelles, for example: trash, recycle, and compost bins for the Golgi body, a house fence for the cell wall, and the living room as the nucleus.
As a group, we achieved creating an attractive and informative cell model with creative analogies, demonstrating our understanding of organelle functions and structures. We collaborated effectively, ensuring everyone’s ideas were incorporated into the final model.
However, we faced technical difficulties during the microphone and screen recording. These included disruptions in audio, unclear sound quality, and potential glitches in the visuals, which could have affected the clarity of our explanations.
To overcome these challenges, we tested and adjusted the microphone settings, checked over the recording, and used a high-quality microphone. We aimed to ensure optimal audio quality and address any issues that may have appeared.
Biotechnology and Solution Fluency
Debrief:
I learned a lot while digging into the ethical problem of DNA editing with CRISPR technology. It required me to do a lot of research and consider different viewpoints. I made a presentation that covered important details, including questions, answers, and potential solutions. To make it more engaging, I added pictures and videos. The presentation properly communicated the ethical dilemmas and offered possible ways to handle the use of CRISPR in DNA editing.
