Racism back then and racism now has changed considerably but there are still some aspects that linger on. Back then, racism against African American people was more visual and verbal in the sense that white supremacists would decide to commit crimes against the black people or verbally threaten them whereas now that does still happen but racism is mostly on thoughts.
I believe that I am very privileged in where I’m growing up because I don’t really see very much racial tension aside from what I see online however, I am very thankful that growing up my Mother made it a priority for me to be very aware of that privilege. When I see on social media innocent black people being shot by police officers, it makes me question how far we’ve really come in terms of racial profiling. Back then, we pretty much had a whole war about slavery and we have come a long way in that sense but not nearly as far as we can. There still exists group who have the sole purpose of denoting that black people shouldn’t share the same rights as they have.
