Task #2 – Please watch the following movie clip then read the document below:

Terry Fox Marathon_of_Hope_path

Terry Fox is a great example of a Canadian hero. Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 and went to school Port Coquitlam where he played many sports.  After he finished high school he attended Simon Fraser University where he was an excellent runner and played basketball.  However, before his twentieth birthday Terry Fox was diagnosed with cancer and had to have his right leg amputated.  He continued to run with an artificial leg and also played wheelchair basketball in Vancouver and won three national championships.

In 1980, using his artificial leg, he started on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research.  Terry began in St. John’s, Newfoundland and ran a marathon a day (42 km). Terry Fox hoped that his Marathon of Hope could raise one dollar for each of Canada’s 24 million people.

143 days and 5,373 kilometers into his run he was forced to stop because his cancer had spread.  Terry Fox died 9 months later. Terry Fox is a national hero, he has had many buildings, roads, parks, and a school named in his honour across the country.  Terry Fox’s legacy lives on as millions of people in over 60 countries participate in the annual Terry Fox Run.  It is now the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research.  It has raised over $600 million to date.

Task #3 – Please download Terry Fox Pt.2 (fillable) and finish the questions for homework.
