The End

Winter sails into my soul and settles down to engulf my body and mind to a state of peace.

What is winter?

It is a frozen voice speaking to me through the chills

It is the time for reflection of our lives

It is the breath of death before the kiss of light

Biological Warfare in the 1400’s

http://discovermagazine.com/1992/oct/thearrowofdiseas137

Not many people take the time to learn about how much of an impact the diseases Columbus brought when he came to America affected the whole event. Also, this author takes a different take on the events that happened and bring up the question that why the Native Americans didn’t conquer Europe and depopulate it. I think this author does a good job of allowing different ideas to be brought and up and explained with his own take on the history of what we now call America. I liked how the author told a story, and then tied it together with facts and questions that aren’t brought up very often. I feel like this article shows the reader that there are many different ideas about the worlds history, and can be voiced and backed up with facts. I really enjoyed this article because it gave me a new perspective on the conquering of the “New World”, and how it probed my brain to really think about the other ways that history could have gone.

Battle of Mogadishu

The Battle of Mogadishu was quite an interesting battle during the UN’s attempt to make Somalia a more stable country. The famine in Somalia was awful, and their country was being run by warlords. This one battle though was quite iconic because of the fact that they used black-hawk helicopters to drop their troops down into the area. As soon as the troops were beginning to be let down, 2 of the helicopters got shot down, part of an ambush by the SNA (Somalian National Alliance) and Al-Qaeda. This was the first of 9 battles in the civil war in Somalia. The author had a really good take on the event and used good descriptive words to really paint a picture for the reader. He had a good use of imagery and descriptive language. Also, the author was very concise, making it easy to understand and understanding each point he was trying to make.

The most iconic atomic bomb

The event that took place in Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945, may be considered the most iconic bombing of all time. Whether it was justified or not, this bombing happened, and gave the Japanese a reason to surrender 10 days later. This event is quite interesting to me because the allies may not have needed this attack to provoke a surrender. It is somewhat funny to me because the code name for the attack was “little boy”. The author discusses more so the Japanese side of the bombing and uses good imagery when discussing the topic. This article gives the reader a good idea of what was going on in Japan at the time and how people reacted. Not only does the author explain this in detail, but also the aftermath of what happened.

The AK47

What was really interesting to me was to see the significance of the AK47. It is nice to see different perspectives on different weapons of that era because of how many different ones were coming out, and how the technology was advancing so quickly. Having an opinion on the AK47 and having a comparison to others (AR15, M16, etc.) is really quite interesting. The effect these weapons had on warfare was quite large, and having different opinions on each is quite helpful in understanding the advantages and disadvantages not only of the weapon, but also the country.  I liked how the author gave an extensive background about the weapon to provide the reader with some knowledge about what he was going to be talking about. This article has many connections to the world wars, and the effect that this weapon had.

South African Storm

This quote is supported by her thesis and essay, because throughout the essay you see her do the small things to keep the “darkness (racism) at bay”. Allison is trying to provide small acts of kindness to those around her in an effort to stop the racism. A good example of this is when she is talking to the women in their language, and not the native language of the Caucasian people in South Africa. It was just something small that she did, but it meant something bigger to her in the long run. The smaller things she can do for the people here, the more it will affect the racism where she lives. Therefore, she feels bad getting in the car. Even though it was something small, it had an affect on racism the wrong way in her eyes.

Miss Brill Human Behavior

I believe that the story “Miss Brill” shows the reader how humans are affected by one another and give us a look into some behaviors of human nature. I believe the writer used the word “brill” in a very deep way. “Brill” refers to a fish that has no use in a culinary way, or no commercial value. This gives contrast to the story because Miss Brill does have value. This also adds to the depth to Miss Brill’s own self deception, and it is a very “human response’. These feelings she has leads to her need to fantasize, just like us humans do. We as people enjoy things to be the way they want, so if something is not going perfect, us as humans tend to fantasize vividly and often. I think this story gave a good outlook on the issues we have as humans, and how many people deal with them.
