AI Assignment

Step 1 | Choose an AI program of your choice

Microsoft Copilot

Step 2 | Use and Evaluate the AI

  1. Describe the AI you have chosen and it’s purpose. Show an example of what it does and how it can be used.
  • Release in Februrary of 2023, Copilot is an AI model created by Microsoft to replace the obsolete model of Cortana. Built and modeled off of GPT-4, Copilot is very similar to Chat-GPT with the added ability to help automate tasks within Windows Office 365 system and that its embedded in all Windows 10 and above systems.

example of Copilot in action:

Evaluate the AI based on the following criteria:

  • Effectiveness: Does the AI system achieve its intended goal?

Copilot works as well as ChatGPT with all its added benefits including being able to provide a user with up to date information as opposed to ChatGPT being limited to about 2021

  • Accuracy: How reliable is the AI?

Through a bit of testing, it seems that the AI is able to provide mostly accurate information, as it  provides its sources and links pages like news outlets at the bottom so the user can go more indepth regarding a topic.

  • Bias: Does the AI system treat everyone equally and avoid bias?

While researching, many articles have cited Chatgpt as biased and have shown the chat bot doing things like giving misinformation to its users regarding elections in Europe as stated by the artcile “The inaccuracies included giving the wrong date for elections, reporting outdated or mistaken polling numbers, listing candidates who had withdrawn from the race as leading contenders, and inventing controversies about candidates in a few cases.”

  • Transparency: Can we understand how the AI system arrives at its decisions?

When asked, Copilot is quite transparent with how and what user’s data is stored and how it’s used.

Data Storage:

Decision making:

  • Safety: Does the AI system operate without posing risks to people or the environment?

Like most AI chat bots, Copilot is no stranger to glitching and saying wrong things due to its autonomy. But sometimes these glitches can cause safety concerns. Pictured below is an example of someone testing Copilot’s capability to handle someone having a mental health crisis where the bot responded with an odd possibly damaging response. This incident caused Microsoft to investigate the cause and fix it

Step 3 | Benefits + Drawback

– Just like the many other chatbots out there, this model still struggles with spreading misinformation or downright harmful things

+ Ability to be used for automation of Office 365 tasks

+ Up to date information can be provided by this bot

+ Is quite open to how a user’s data is managed and stored compared to ChatGPT

In conclusion Copilot is quite a capable AI chatbot with many different benefits that differ it from the competition, but one must remember to not always take AI for its word and scope out many different sources and point of views before formking an opinion.

Tech Team Q1 Reflection

What are some initiatives\things\volunteering you have been involved with this past term? Describe what you have done, and the time you have spent.

  • This term I joined the school’s social media team and was given the responsibility of managing the posts, ontop of this i have spent almost every thursday at the wave helping students/staff who have tech issues whether its problems with their device or with Office 365/MyEd.

What are some things you have learned? What are some of your strengths?

  • During my time on the tech team I learnt the basics of TinkerCad. During this term i learnt I have strength in helping and assisting others, and learning and adapting fast.

What are some of the challenges, aha moments, small wins…you experienced? What are some areas where you can grow?

  • One challenge and small win I encountered in this semester was learning TinkerCad all over again. While learning TinkerCad i ran into problems with modeling but i perservered and managed to learn the ropes pretty quickly and im proud of that.

Looking ahead…What are some things you would like to improve and/or accomplish? Is there something I want to learn or try?  Focus on technology, leadership and school culture.

  • Next Semester I want to try learning how to utilize the makerspace and utilize the tools there so i can be more efficent.

3D Printer Introduction

For my tutorial I learnt how to make a chess pawn and I added my twist to it.

– What are some things that were challenging?

Trying to move the parts around, resizing was also quite a challenge and felt clunky.

– What are some things that worked well?

Not much, since i’m new to using tinkercad most of the interface feels awkward to me but with practice im sure ill find my way around it.

– What did you learn? What personalization did you do?

I made simple changes to the pawn like changing the color and making it look more like a real one by adding detail like a bigger head and a ring around it.

Moose Hide Project Reflection – EFP 12

For Red Dress Day, I picked the task of creating an instagram post for the school account to share information about the similar Moose Hide Campaign Day. During this project I had the responsibility to educate myself on the Moose Hide Campaign and further inhance my understanding about the social issue of violence against Indigenous women. Another skill I had to untilize was my understanding of the Canva application to make this instagram post and tap into my inner graphic designer and overall im proud of the end product.

EFP 12 – Storytelling Podcast

Our cover art pictured above

Summary

In this podcast we reflected on the Indigenous stories we read during our storytelling unit. These stories ranged from traditional stories passed on from generation to generation, and stories depicting the struggles of Indigenous peoples from the past and present. After we read these stories as a group we would point out how these stories would relate to the AWOKB (Aboriginal ways of knowing and being) and our EFP 12 core competencies. Overall im proud of how the final product turned out, how quickly and efficently me and my group were able to complete this podcast, and how I was able to edit these audio clips despite not doing a podcast project since grade 9. Im also grateful we were given the opportunity to read these books and learn about these authors.

Heres our podcast.
