Step 1 | Choose an AI program of your choice
Microsoft Copilot
Step 2 | Use and Evaluate the AI
- Describe the AI you have chosen and it’s purpose. Show an example of what it does and how it can be used.
- Release in Februrary of 2023, Copilot is an AI model created by Microsoft to replace the obsolete model of Cortana. Built and modeled off of GPT-4, Copilot is very similar to Chat-GPT with the added ability to help automate tasks within Windows Office 365 system and that its embedded in all Windows 10 and above systems.
example of Copilot in action:
Evaluate the AI based on the following criteria:
- Effectiveness: Does the AI system achieve its intended goal?
Copilot works as well as ChatGPT with all its added benefits including being able to provide a user with up to date information as opposed to ChatGPT being limited to about 2021
- Accuracy: How reliable is the AI?
Through a bit of testing, it seems that the AI is able to provide mostly accurate information, as it provides its sources and links pages like news outlets at the bottom so the user can go more indepth regarding a topic.
- Bias: Does the AI system treat everyone equally and avoid bias?
While researching, many articles have cited Chatgpt as biased and have shown the chat bot doing things like giving misinformation to its users regarding elections in Europe as stated by the artcile “The inaccuracies included giving the wrong date for elections, reporting outdated or mistaken polling numbers, listing candidates who had withdrawn from the race as leading contenders, and inventing controversies about candidates in a few cases.”
- Transparency: Can we understand how the AI system arrives at its decisions?
When asked, Copilot is quite transparent with how and what user’s data is stored and how it’s used.
Data Storage:
Decision making:
- Safety: Does the AI system operate without posing risks to people or the environment?
Like most AI chat bots, Copilot is no stranger to glitching and saying wrong things due to its autonomy. But sometimes these glitches can cause safety concerns. Pictured below is an example of someone testing Copilot’s capability to handle someone having a mental health crisis where the bot responded with an odd possibly damaging response. This incident caused Microsoft to investigate the cause and fix it
Step 3 | Benefits + Drawback
– Just like the many other chatbots out there, this model still struggles with spreading misinformation or downright harmful things
+ Ability to be used for automation of Office 365 tasks
+ Up to date information can be provided by this bot
+ Is quite open to how a user’s data is managed and stored compared to ChatGPT
In conclusion Copilot is quite a capable AI chatbot with many different benefits that differ it from the competition, but one must remember to not always take AI for its word and scope out many different sources and point of views before formking an opinion.
