The theory of Continental Drift can be proven through 4 pieces of evidence, Fossils being found on multiple continents, the appearance that continents fit together, the movement of tectonic plates and convection currents. The first piece of evidence, the fact that the continents appear to fit together, for example, South America and Africa appear to fit like puzzle pieces. Other Examples Antartica, Australia, and India which all look to fit together as well. All these continents seem to fit like puzzle pieces because of they at one point might have been all connected and then broke apart at some point in history. Another piece of evidence is that an all these continents that seem to fit together there are fossils of the same animals and plants, for example, measoaurus fossils have been found in southern Africa and southern South America and mountain ranges in eastern Noth America and northern Europe share the same types of rock with the same age. A third example of continental drift is plate tectonics, which has roots in Wagner’s theory of continental drift but has scientific proof behind it. By 1966 tectonics was widely accepted by the scientific community. Tectonic plates are the chunks of the earth all the continents sit on basically. These plates have been observed by scientists to be moving away or toward each other, for example, the tectonic plate that South America sits on is moving away from the Africa plate at a speed of 77 mm per year. The fourth example of this theory is the convection currents of the earth its self which was proposed by Arthur Holmes in 1965. Under the Earths crust, there is magma rising and falling in large circles pushing the tectonic plates and moving the earth crust around. These currents are the cause of the tectonic plates movements and are part of the reason that the continents such as Africa, South America, and others look to fit together because with the knowledge if plate tectonics and convection
